When you think of marriage what pops in your head?

for some it is a fearful thought....Fear of hurt, inadequacy,

seen bad marriages up close

Others view it as a disney movie with bon bons and picnics everyday

I remember getting married to Jessica and I thought it was going to be a sleepover with my best friend with netflix and ice cream every night.

and then I put on 20 pounds

and then the sink was filled with dishes

I swore they were hers and she swore they were mine

quickly we realized What marriage was about and what it wasnt about

Genesis 2:1–7 NKJV

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. Old testemant law meant laboring to make oneself acceptable to God

offering, sacrafice, temple law, ceremonial law

Jesus comes to pay for sin

giving you rest

We need to learn how to rest in Jesus finished work

still keep principle to take a day of rest

Genesis 2:8–14 NKJV

The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

Genesis 2:15–17 NKJV

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Adam is given paradise to live in and take care of

given the 1st commandment --

-dont eat from the tree of Good and evil.

people hate being told what to do.

why many hate God

gives me rules

Q. How many of you have felt like God is burdening you with rules?

what about your parents?

Understand that God gives you commandments for your own good.

1 John 5:3 NKJV

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

If I listened to my mom when I was younger.... avoided trial

because she already knew what would happen.

command me rules to keep me from destruction

disobedience leads to destruction

you dont have to go down that path.

And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

God creates from the rib of Adam his Helper

men dont have babies right ???

leave your mother and father and join to wife

purpouse is to glorify God in marriage

Your in training to be a husband and a wife

some of you need to learn how to stand on own two feet

your life is not going to be with your parents

its with your future spouse.

leave and cleave

start focusing on becoming a mature man or woman

and a strong provider or help mate

Your parents job in raising you is to become a godly husband or wife

then for you to leave

Marriage is a gift from God

The Lord created adam-son of earth

gave eve — life —to be Adams wife

Gift

Dont settle for someone who is not a gift from God

Many marriages fail because

people settle for a spouse that meets romatic expectations but fails to meet spiritual requirments

Most important requirment is that He or she knows God

2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Marriage is a picture of the gospel

verse 24

coming together as one ---picture of the gospel

Ephesians 5:31–32 NKJV

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Man reps christ,,, woman reps church

God gives eve to Adam

God gives the Church to Christ —bride

we will walk in the new paradise with Christ who is the greater Adam

This would make the church the greater eve

Marriage is to represent love,

forgivness,

faithfulness,

and sacrafice

all examples we see in the gospel.

Ephesians 5:25 NKJV

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

men — keep your heart on guard and be looking for a woman that you can love like Christ..

this is your commission

Women— keep your heart open to finding a husband who will love you like this.

so that you can be a good helper like eve

that you would come together as one with eachother and Christ

from there --- obey genesis one and be fruitful and multiply....

in this you are building a family of Godly children

Psalm 127:4 NKJV

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.

your in training for marriage -

get as close to the Lord as you can now.

remember that marriage is a gift from God

dont fall for a cheap immitation

marriage is a picture of the gospel
