What is The Significance of the rooster Crowing in regards to Peter denying Jesus three times.

Matthew 26:34 “Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you that during this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times!””

Luke 22:34 “And he said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know me!””

Mark 14:30 “And Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you that today—this night—before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times!””

John 21:15 “Now when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs!””

John 21:16 “He said to him again a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Shepherd my sheep!””

John 21:17“He said to him a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed because he said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything! You know that I love you!” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep!”

James 1:8 “he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

John 21:18 “Truly, truly I say to you, when you were young, you tied your clothes around yourself and walked wherever you wanted. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will tie you up and carry you where you do not want to go.”

John 21:19“(Now he said this to indicate by what kind of death he would glorify God.) And after he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me!””

The First time Jesus says it,

A. Believer’s are referring to as sheep throughtout Scripture.

B. For he is our God and we are the people of His people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

Psalm 95:7 “For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. Today if you will hear his voice:”

C. Jesus is both our Good Shepherd .

John 10:11 ““I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

John 10:9 “I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and will go out and will find pasture.”

2. By describing His people as Lambs,he is Emphasizing their Nature as immature and vulnerable and in need of tending and care

2.Peter called to the sheep in a Pastoral Ministry.

1 Peter 2:2 “like newborn infants long for the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,”

Deuteronomy 8:3 “And he humbled you and let you go hungry, and then he fed you with that which you did not know nor did your ancestors know, in order to make you know that not by bread alone but by all that goes out of the mouth of Yahweh humankind shall live.”

Matthew 4:4 “But he answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man will not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’ ””

Hebrews 5:12 “For indeed, although you ought to be teachers by this time, you have need of someone to teach you again the beginning elements of the oracles of God, and you have need of milk, not solid food.”

Hebrews 5:13 “For everyone who partakes of milk is unacquainted with the message of righteousness, because he is an infant.”

Hebrews 5:14 “But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have trained their faculties for the distinguishing of both good and evil.”
