Scripture Reading

Intro

I.

Sin.
You will not put one sin to death unless you are committed to put all of it to death - total war.
Sin desires to destroy you. Corrupt to the utter most (Gen 4:7). The very sins we hold onto are the very ones destroying us.
Sin aims to make you believe you are already defeated. That your sin is inevitable to make you give up the fight. If that’s you hold fast to the promise if John 8:36!
There has to be a point in time decision; a resolute commitment to put sin to death. Without it you’ll never take the first step because you can always say tomorrow I’ll get serious about my sin. THere’s got to be a point where you say all of my life is yours. That can be scary. I know I get scared of saying your will be done.
We must first believe in Christ unless we do we will die in our sins (John 8:24). Free from the condemnation/penalty in Christ. Free from the power in Christ.
Come to an end of yourself Romans 7 = utter dependance on God and His grace in Christ.
But if by the Spirit. You cannot white knuckle it or do it in your own power. Th eGoliath of your sin will not be killed by the armor of men but by faith in God.
Prayer dependance. Hebrews 4:15-16. And you keep going back.
Abiding in the word. Not just not sinning but a life of relentless godliness where we aim to live our whole life according to the whole counsel of the Word of God. How the Word works 1689?
Fighting temptation not just ignoring it. Taking every thought captive and making it submit to Christ. guard the borders of your holiness. don’t let sin build up a seige work against your heart. put it to death at the first moment of temptation. Don’t let it run free on the periphery of your mind. sound the alarm. Send out the calvary. Put it to death!
Encouraging Scriptures.
This all sounds good. but its all too good to be true. You don’t know how hard it is. I’ve tried. I’ve asked God to take it away from me. To free me. To save me. and no matter how hard I try i just can’t. I’m just trapped. I believe Jesus frees sinners…just not me… .
I believe help my unbelief.
