Psalm 27 is a psalm of David that expresses Davids Fearless Trust in God.
It is a Psalm filled with Faith in God, The Triumph Of God over enemies, the glories of His Holy Name and the Strength found in God’s Presence.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom should I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom should I dread?
1. The Lord is my light.
1. The Lord is my light.
David was a mighty and a great King of Israel. Yet David proclaims that whatever light he may have is but a pale moonlight reflection of the Glorious Light of God.
God is a light to His people:
1: Shows them the way when they are in doubt.
2: To bring light to darkened hearts when they are in sorrow.
2: He is my salvation.
2: He is my salvation.
In Jesus Christ I am safe. He has literally saved me.
From what:
1: My sins.
2: My Fears.
3: My Weaknesses.
3. He is the strength of my life.
3. He is the strength of my life.
As the strength of our life, He is the strength of our life’s contingents.
He is the strength of my marriage.
He is the strength of my Fatherhood.
He is the strength of my ministry.
These are the facts my friends!
So what are the Conclusions?
Well as the Apostle said:
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
With God as our strength and Defense:
Courage triumphs over fears.
When Omnipotence, Omniscience and Omnipresence are all “for you”: Then truly the faithful christian knows that they have nothing to fear.
If God is my light I will fear no darkness.
If God is my salvation I will fear no Weapon.
If God is my defense I will fear no evil.
3 If an army encamps against me, My heart will not fear; If war arises against me, In spite of this I am confident.
Let me tell you of a paradox:
You can be in 2 places at once.
You can be IN a Dangerous circumstance on one hand.
AND
You can be in God’s Presence AT THE SAME TIME!
Danial is a classic example.
Daniel was IN a den of Lions but Danial was also IN GOD’S PRESENCE.
God’s Presence has POWER over our Circumstances.
God’s Presence has power over:
Armies, Enemies, lions, serpents, wolves...
No matter what we face we can be absolutely confident.
Confident Trust in God
Confident Trust in God
1. That he shall be safe.
5 For on the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; He will hide me in the secret place of His tent; He will lift me up on a rock.
God will conceal us.
He will provide both shelter for our physical needs and He HIMSELF is the shelter for our souls.
7 You are my hiding place; You keep me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
The Presence of God.
The Power of God.
The Promises of God.
The Providence of God.
The Love of God.
All of these are Divine sources of Strength.
God is our rock.
The Rock of Ages who cannot be moved.
The Rock of wisdom on which we build our lives.
We are also confident that:
2. We shall be victorious
6 And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
God’s presence elevates our head above our enemies.
That is:
Our thinking is higher than theirs.
Our peace is transcendent.
Our Joy is unshakable.
Surrounded by such a great cloud of witness: All of whom witness to God’s Strength David has but one request:
If you had 1 request, one guaranteed prayer to pray.
What would it be?
What would it be if you, like David, found yourself surrounded by enemies who wish to devour the flesh from your bones?
Would you pray for safety?
Would you pray for an army of your own?
What is the King’s single request:
4 One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple.
1. What it is he desires—to dwell in the house of the Lord.
All God’s children desire to dwell in God’s house.
Why? Because the normal, natural place all children wish to be is in their Fathers House.
Where else should Christians desire to be?
Should we desire to sit on a throne?
No, We already have a gracious King whom we serve.
Should we desire to be on a battlefield?
No, We are already are more than conquers through Jesus.
Should we desire to be the leader of people?
No, We already have a good shepherd who leads us to green pastures and still waters.
No, The only place a christian desires to be is in God’s Holy Presence.
Those that truly desire communion with God will set themselves with all diligence to seek after it.
1 One who separates himself seeks his own desire; He quarrels against all sound wisdom.
What does David do in God’s Presence?
What is his desire?
That he might have the pleasure of meditating upon God.
To fill his mind with God’s beauty.
The beauty of God’s perfection.
The beauty of God’s Holiness.
The beauty of God’s wisdom.
The beauty of God’s grace.
In other words:
David sought nothing more than to be captivated by God.
Many will say: What about this or that?
David knew what Mary knew when she sat at the feet of Jesus and it was said of her:
42 but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Conclusion:
Only one thing is needed.
Only one thing is good.
