Be safe
Be respectful
Be responsible
Be Christ-like
Introduction:
Today, we're going to talk about a very special person from the Bible who teaches us an important lesson about responsibility. Her name is Esther, and her story is found in the Old Testament. Let's open our Bibles to the book of Esther and discover what we can learn from her.
Prayer
Scripture Reading: Esther 2:5–7 NLT “At that time there was a Jewish man in the fortress of Susa whose name was Mordecai son of Jair. He was from the tribe of Benjamin and was a descendant of Kish and Shimei. His family had been among those who, with King Jehoiachin of Judah, had been exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar. This man had a very beautiful and lovely young cousin, Hadassah, who was also called Esther. When her father and mother died, Mordecai adopted her into his family and raised her as his own daughter.”
Lesson 1: Taking Responsibility for Others
Esther's story begins with Mordecai taking responsibility for his cousin Esther when her parents passed away. Even though Mordecai didn't have to, he chose to care for Esther as his own daughter. We learn from this that responsibility often involves looking out for others, just as Mordecai cared for Esther. In your families and friendships, how can you show responsibility by taking care of one another?
Have two kids give an example
Scripture Reading: Esther 2:8 NLT “As a result of the king’s decree, Esther, along with many other young women, was brought to the king’s harem at the fortress of Susa and placed in Hegai’s care.”
Lesson 2: Being Responsible in New Situations
Esther faced a big change in her life when she was taken to the palace to be considered as the new queen. Despite this new and unfamiliar situation, Esther approached it with responsibility and grace. As you face new challenges or changes, remember Esther's example and try to be responsible in every situation that you find yourself in. How can you show responsibility when you encounter new and different things?
Story of trying food in Cambodia
Scripture Reading: Esther 4:15–16 NLT “Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”
Lesson 3: Courageous Responsibility in Difficult Times
When Esther learned about the plot to destroy her people, she faced an incredibly challenging situation. Instead of shrinking back in fear, she showed great courage. Esther took responsibility for her people by deciding to approach the king, even though it was risky and could cost her life. This teaches us that responsibility sometimes requires courage, especially when we need to stand up for what is right. How can you show courageous responsibility when faced with difficult situations?

Conclusion:
Just like Esther, we can learn to be responsible by caring for others, handling new situations with grace, and recognizing our role in God's plan. Let's pray that God helps us to be responsible in all areas of our lives and to follow the example of Esther in taking on our responsibilities with love and obedience.
Closing Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Esther and the lessons we can learn from her story. Help us to be responsible in our families, friendships, and in fulfilling the purpose you have for each of us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
