Repentance
Repentance
The act of changing your mind - It is generally thought of changing the direction you are heading and turning toward the way of the Lord.
Here are some passages that support the need for Man to “Repent” and turn to the Father.
Jesus talking to the Pharisees (leaders of the day) about the need to change their minds and understand they (as all of us are) sick (sinners) and are in need of a doctor i.e. repentance.
The New King James Version Chapter 9
“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Again - we see Jesus rebuking the cities because they saw who He was and His miracles testified that He was sent by the Father, yet they didn’t want to repent......again, we see the need to change their minds about Him.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
We see the need for those that are lost to come back into the flock, there is a need for repentance.
I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
Part of the great commission is the need to repent and turn to the Lord, the Risen Christ.
It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’
It was considered by some back then, and still today, that repentance was to just the Jews , as John the baptists ministry was to call Jews to repentance and water baptism.
However we see that is clearly mentioned that it is to both Jew and Gentile.
When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,
because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”
testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
