How do I know what God Wants?
What is God’s will for my life?
The Jewish religion had become more about what you do, that who you are.

Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5)

Jesus begins to teach a new way of life
v. 1-16 - Who we are to be
v. 17-48 - “you’ve heard it said, but I tell you____”

GOD CARES ABOUT WHO BEFORE DO

God is more concerned with who you are becoming than what you are doing
1 Thessalonians 4:3 (ESV)
Who does God want me to become, not what does God want me to do
Is it God’s will that I’m a pastor?
Secondary will - His PRIMARY will is that I live a holy life
This job or that job - Be faithful
Mary/date this person or not - be faithful
IF YOU ARE BECOMING THE RIGHT WHO - YOU WILL CHOOSE THE RIGHT DO

GOD CARES ABOUT WHY BEFORE WHAT

Motive matter to God

Galatians 1:10 ESV
10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Colossians 3:17 “17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Pleasing God Isn’t a few big decisions. It is daily decisions of dying to self and following Christ.
JESUS KNEW WHO HE WAS, AND WHY HE CAME - IT ALLOWED HIM TO DO THAT WHICH HE NEEDED
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 3:16–17 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
