make a note of one thing you recieved from today”s sermon.
write it down ---- your going to share it after were done....
title of sermon - trusting God even when you dont understand
Luke 18 verses 28-43
What is something you dont understand?
For me its mathematics...
I looked at some math phrases..
half a dozen---- why not just say 6
pemdas--- ???
decagon---sounds like a star wars character
at the end of the day I know that mathematics will get to the right place.
In the same way I know that God is going to bring me to places that I dont understand, yet I can trust Him.
Do you know how Jesus is working in your life?
not always
sometimes you walk through something that you dont understand.
sometimes your in a situation that is difficult.
and all that you can hold onto is the fact that God is good and He has a plan.
today we are going to get a good dose of
trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding… proverbs 3:5
recap rich young ruler—who can be saved---ruler left peter says this
Luke 18:28–30 NKJV
Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You.” So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”
Bold peter is showing Christ,,, the disciples dedication
“see we have followed you”--------commitment
They didnt just make a decision for christ and go home and spend the next 3 months living for the world..
commited--
Jesus said foxes have holes and birds have nests but I have nowhere to lay my head.
-- “SEE Weve followed you”
they left it all to follow —unlike the rich young ruler
This passage shows us that

Trusting in Jesus takes commitment

passage does not mean abandon your family
following Him takes sacrafice..... giving your relationship over to God
Sometimes there are people you will need to give up in order to follow Jesus
story of allen---jewish…Jesus is tabboo
He didint abandon , family rejected Him.
some loose family.
choice
For me It meant loosing my friends.
Story---thinking all my friends would become christians
following Jesus requires a dying to self and your old life
*What ever is not of Christ needs to be dealt with.
This means that for some people excommunication, death,
and a natural wedge
what fellowship does light have with darkness?
We also see this leaving mother and father as a general purpouse of putting the kingdom work over everything else.
Matthew 4:19–20 NKJV
Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
left father and mother and Job , and followed Jesus
Does not mean they never saw their mom and dad again.
But they heard the call and made the decision to loose their life to serve Jesus
Following Jesus means that your relationships will look different
Look at peters relationship.
Peter had a wife....wife had to sacrafice —leave for missionary journeys
peter had to sacrafice too.. do the same thing back to His wife
relationships were different because of the commitment to the kingdoms and the its work. ....
you get a PROMISE
you will be blessed
on earth and in eternity.....
make a commitment today to
store up treasures in heaven.
Luke 18:31–34 NKJV
Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken.

Trusting God takes Faith

pulls them to side
prophesys of His death
points out the prophets ---said same thing---it will come to pass
gentiles will mock insult and spit and whip and kill me
BUT I will rise again
Disciples reaction........I dont get it
no way ---it was like when I heard my daughter is going to have a 5% chance
i finally came to terms,,,,, but my friends to this day still dont understand.
made false prophesies.. I have faith she is going to be fine.. thats Not Faith
I didnt understand how they didnt understand and why we had such bad friends.....
yet I still followed Jesus.....
the disciples still wanted to follow Him
something similar
Matthew 16:21–23 NKJV
From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
hear about this terrible thing
again no way Lord
get rebuked
Q . How many times have you gone through hard things and you didnt understand why?
---you came to the conclusion, I need to trust God even when I dont understand.
you can do that because He has a plan.
His plan is to take the things that are broken and redeem them
The worst and most vile act in human History
Jesus cross
ALL SAID>>>It doesnt make sense I dont get it
Yet it had its purpouse in bringing salvation to a broken world.
I dont understand alot
But I have faith that God is good
and I have faith in
Romans 8:28 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
When you dont understand the hard things that come your way
trust that God is working for your good regardless of how bad it looks.
Luke 18:35–42 NKJV
Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.”
set scene
blind man, beggar, ,,,poor---
roadside to jerusalem-----good place to beg because of pilgrims
with his ears He has heard of Jesus
He believed He could heal him...
so as He passes by He just starts screaming
Imagine him in the road
desperation
*may you see your deperation and need for Jesus.
As you cry out to God
people will try to shut you up .
stop bothering God, He doesnt care about you....
He doesnt stop crying out----Jesus HAVE MERCY ON ME

Trusting in God takes courage

keep Crying out to Jesus
He will hear you
Psalm 120:1 NKJV
In my distress I cried to the Lord, And He heard me.
Bartimaeus does not stop crying out
The miricale of sight was a physical healing that represents a spiritual reality.
this also is evidence of Jesus being the messiah.
Isaiah 42:7 NKJV
To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.
we see the physical and spiritual nature of this prophesy .
every person needs to be freed from the prison of sin.
AMAZING GRACE
amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me , I once was lost but now im found, was blind but now i see.
are you still blind?
Have you cried out to the Lord for mercy?
Trusting God takes commitment, faith, and it takes courage.
Dear friend the holy spirit will produce this in your life
if you will just cry out to God.
If you have never trusted in Jesus for the forgivness of your sin
He offers it today
Gospel.
If you have trusted in Jesus
remember that no matter what happens God has got you.
If you can trust Him with your salvation, you can trust Him with your problems.
lets pray
