FAITH AND RESULTS

Proof text:
1 John 5:1-5 (emphasis verse 4)
1 John 5:1–5 “1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Intro

The person who has received a gift of faith has no problem believing
Walk by faith or live by faith are the terms used to describe the relationship a believer has to God and Jesus Christ.

A. Faith as a mustered seed avails much.

Hebrews 11:33 “33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,”
Salvation through faith.
We are sons of God through faith
Healing and deliverances through faith.
Obtain promises (meaning promises were given to them and today we receive what was promised. 2 Corinthians 1:20)
Enforce or brings justice
Stopped evil plans
Made to be righteous

Scriptures show us things that affect our faith, so

B. The problem is not faith but,

Absence of boldness (fear, doubt, worry and anxiety takes over)
Failing to love
 Lack of confidence
How can one build their confidence? (Look at notes in Logos bible). Hebrews 4:16, Hebrews 3:6-8, 2 Chronicles 32:8
Hebrews 4:16 ESV
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 3:6–8 ESV
6 but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. 7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
2 Chronicles 32:8 ESV
8 With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Approach the throne of grace with all your issues
Do not neglect the grace you have at the point of need
See until you obtain mercy
 Avoid things that condemns you
Don’t focus too much on evidence of the things you see
Words of encouragement (I can do it, I am successful)
Cast away from you fear and doubt
Do things that lifts your spirit. (Dress well, eat well, connect to good people, etc)

C. Supplement your faith with,

 Boldness. Acts 4:29-31
Acts 4:29–31 ESV
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
Virtue (ie. moral excellence, goodness). 2 Peter 1:5-7
2 Peter 1:5–7 ESV
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
Love. Galatians 5:6, 1 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 3:17-18
Galatians 5:6 ESV
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
1 Timothy 2:15 ESV
15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
Ephesians 3:17–18 ESV
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
Good conscience. 1 John 5:14, Mark 11:23
1 John 5:14 ESV
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
Mark 11:23 ESV
23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
Patience. Hebrews 6:12
Hebrews 6:12 ESV
12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Corresponding works or actions. Hebrews 11:4, James 2:17
Hebrews 11:4 ESV
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.
James 2:17 ESV
17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

D. What we add to faith either makes it great or weak.

Great faith has boldness or confidence or love added to our believing.
Weak or little faith or faithlessness has doubt or fear or unbelief added to our believing.
