I. THEY WILL KNOW US BY OUR FRUIT
John 15:1–6 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.”
There are countless churches with people who have been regular attendees, and many of them have served within their church for years.
They may have finished numerous seminars, hosted and taught small groups, completed dozens of courses, and even attended and graduated from theological institutions of higher learning.
Yet, despite all this, they have never led a single person to Christ There is no evidence that Jesus is living through them.
Discipleship is more than the accumulation of information.
True discipleship always results in spiritual transformation leading to reproduction.
It must lead to a loving, community penetration. Jesus teaches us how this can onlybe done.

II. WHAT KIND OF FRUIT?

Dave Earley comments, "the mark of discipleship is continuous fruit bearing,” and further explains that fruit is a "broad term that embraces four aspects” to demonstrate the transformative process which eventually leads the disciple maker to multiplication.[I]
A. The Spiritual Fruit of Christlike Love
A. The Spiritual Fruit of Christlike Love
John 15:12–15 “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.”

3. Controlled by the Spirit
3. Controlled by the Spirit
1 Timothy 1:8–9 “We know that the law is good when used correctly. For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders.”
C. The Fruit of Spiritual Gifts
C. The Fruit of Spiritual Gifts
Ephesians 4:11–12 “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.”
1. Varieties of gifting in the church—one body
1. Varieties of gifting in the church—one body
1 Corinthians 12:4-12, 1 Corinthians 12:28 “Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages.”

2. Members of Christ’s Body
Romans 12:4–5 “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”

3. Christ Jesus is the Cornerstone
Ephesians 2:19–20 “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.”

He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, and you will bring me glory.””
2. That we will tell the world about Him
2. That we will tell the world about Him
Psalm 78:4–6 “We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children.”
3. And we will not stop, though our bodies age
3. And we will not stop, though our bodies age
