The Deliverance of a Donkey (Genesis 22:1-14)
The Deliverance of a Donkey (Genesis 22:1-14)
Saddling of the Donkey (vs.3)
Saddling of the Donkey (vs.3)
The donkey is a beast of burden. It carries heavy loads.
This donkey was saddled.
Saddled - to bind or bound, to restrain
“When I knelt the blood fell”
“Sin is a captive
it binds and it holds
Satan will try to abolish your soul
Theres only one hope for your destiny
And that one hope is found
when your down on your knees”
Sin is a load that you will never be able to carry yourself.
When we look at this passage, the wood is representative of sin in the one that is lost.
Sitting of the Donkey (vs.5)
Sitting of the Donkey (vs.5)
I’m sure the donkey got tired of carrying that wood. (Sin will burden you down)
I’m sure the donkey was wondering when he would finally have some peace. (There is no peace in sin)
I’m sure the donkey was ready to give up (Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay)
THE DONKEY COULDN’T GET RID OF THE BURDEN HIMSELF.
Shifting from the Donkey (vs.6)
Shifting from the Donkey (vs.6)
Where the donkey had the burden of carrying the wood, now the son carries it up the mountain. The father (Abraham) takes the wood (a picture of sin) and lays it on his son (Isaac).
Isaiah 53:4–6 “Surely he hath borne our griefs, And carried our sorrows: Yet we did esteem him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned every one to his own way; And the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Thank God on a hill called Calvary, those that carry a burden can come to the bottom of the mountain and have their burden taken away! The Son of God carried that burden long ago so you wouldn’t have to!
Where the donkey had been bound, now the son is bound. (vs.9)
This donkey carried wood. The Son of God carried the cross up Calvary’s hill. THE SON PICKED UP OUR CROSS WE SHOULD BEAR AND HE BORE IT FOR US!
Colossians 2:13–14 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”
Christ took our accusation as sinner (thief, sodomite, covetous, murderer, liar, effeminate, )and covered it with His blood!
WOOD is mentioned 140 times in the Bible (14 = deliverance or salvation X 10 = God’s completeness, authority, order, or divine perfection)
The cross is a representation of God’s perfect and complete salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ!
Abraham LAID Isaac on the altar upon the WOOD (vs.9)
This represents how Christ laid down His life for us! John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
EVEN BEFORE THE DONKEY HAD THE WOOD PUT ON HIM, THE SON CLAVE THE WOOD HIMSELF.
(Clave = split) The Son had prepared everything needed for the offering! Christ was a lamb slain from the foundation of the world!
Satisfaction of the Donkey (vs.19)
Satisfaction of the Donkey (vs.19)
When Abraham and Isaac return to the young men, there’s no more mention of the wood!
THE WOOD WAS TOOK CARE OF BY THE SACRIFICE OF THE SON!
You better believe that donkey was happy not having to carry that burden any more!
There’s a reason why when people get saved that they feel a “burden is lifted.”
Matthew 11:28–30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
