Main Passage:
1 And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. 2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. 3 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. 4 And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. 5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— 11 “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” 12 And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
13 He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them. 14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
15 And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Recap with commentary:

Faith, Friends & Forgiveness, three keys to experiencing Spiritual mobility and life.
4 And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Point out how shocking Jesus’ first statement is. He comments on a spiritual coniditon not his physical condition. He ignores the most obvious fact in the room - dude is paralyzed.
Why do you come to Jesus? Often we come with a specific request and yet He desires to do so much more. He desires to do something radically more profound than what we could imagine.
We are the paralytic
We are the paralytic
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins
Explain the power of the gospel
5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Faith is the precedent for forgiveness. Faith is the precedes spiritual vitality and mobility
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus saw their faith and it lead to forgiveness

Physical imagery foreshadowing what Jesus would do rising from the dead and what He provides for us - new way of living!
What is the area where you feel stuck and paralyzed?
What is the area where you feel stuck and paralyzed?
3 keys to experiencing freedom: Faith, Friends, Forgivness.
If you’ve been forgiven, walk in freedom - don’t stay laying on the mat! Stand up and walk!
If you’re paralyzed and need help come pray with one of us, find a friend, we are here for you and would love to bring you into God’s presence.
If you don’t have a relationship with God but for the first time have faith He is who he claims to be - offer opportunity for them to start a relationship with Jesus.
Intro:
Write illustration / story of being injured immobilized (walk in on crutches) and begin telling the story.
What’s a area in your life you feel paralyzed - unable to heal - unable to make progress?
have you brought it to Jesus? maybe you have in isolation, do you have 4 friends who love you enough they’re willing to do whatever it takes to bring you into the throne of God and make sure He sees you.
Mark 2:3–5 (ESV)
3 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. 4 And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. 5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
In order for us to experience healing and restoration in our lives we must first have faith IN WHO Jesus is.
Circumstance will always make us question His character. “We’ll i’ve been paralyzed my whole life” aka I’ve been angry my whole life, i’ve been depressed my whole life, i’ve been single my whole life, i’ve been addicted to porn, etc
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Faith precedes forgivness
y’all thought this story was about a paralytic. The assuption is that the reason the paraylitic was brought to Jesus, his physical condition, is what he needed healing from. The reality is that what this man needed is not the ability to walk but to be forgiven!
Some of you want God to do a miracle or provide for you in a tangible/physical way, but the problem is not your physical condition - but what God wants to do to mobilize your spiritual condition.
