Her Desperate Condition
Her Desperate Condition
This story is filled with two people in desparate circumstances. One a father, whose 12 year old girl is at the point of death. The other a woman, whose 12 year condition has her at the end of herself.
A discharge of blood. (lit. “being in the flow of blood”) 12 years of hemmoraging. A continual problem.
She had spent everything she had. Her wealth and man’s wisdom couldn’t help her.
Mark says “Having not been help, but having grown worse.” She was weak.
Her Decision
Her Decision
She went to Jesus. She determined that only Jesus could provide the healing that she needed.
Let sickness drive you to the Savior! He is our healer! Exodus 15:26 “saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.””
Christ’s Deliverance
Christ’s Deliverance
She touched him and instantly knew that she had been made whole. Our desperate need in sickness is communion with the Lord!
Jesus sought her ought and had her confess.
She came forward and confessed.
There is cleansing in confession. There is affirmation of God’s internal work in public declaration.
She told the whole story.
Jesus saved her,
Daughter - a term of acceptance. She has not been rejected, but found favor with God!
“Your faith has made you whole (sozo - salvation!)”
“Go in peace”

A Desperate Man
A Desperate Man
His daughter is sick, at the point of death. Jairus falls at Jesus’ feet and begs for him to heal her.
On the way, Jesus is “delayed” by the woman.
Imagine Jairus’ worry and anxiety. He went from certain that Christ would heal, to wondering if He would get there in time.
Do you ever find yourself worrying over God’s timetable?
A Devastating Word
A Devastating Word
Luke 8:49 “While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.””
Your daughter is dead! Too late!
The flood of questions that would come:
“If only...”
“Why did he have to stop? Why them and not me?”
“God has forgotten about me.”
Now the discouragement, “Don’t bother the teacher...” (a lie from Satan, Christ is not bothered.)
Isaiah 49:14–16 (ESV) But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” 15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. 16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.
The Deliverance of Christ
The Deliverance of Christ
First, a Command from Christ.
Don’t be afraid, “Don’t let fear consume you.”
Only Believe (Faith is an active verb). A choice to trust God in the face of death.
Jesus took only a few and cast out the scorners.
There are moments when your need can only be met by Christ and you need the company of those who also trust him.
Second, Christ’s compassion.
He brings just the parents and the disciples in the room.
He touches the girl, “takes her by the hand.”
Third, Christ’s power.
He raises her back to life. just a word.
