“I cannot tell a lie”

“Luke, I am your father”

Sometimes out misquotes can come to mean the opposite of the original meaning.

Blood is thicker than water

Blood of the covenant is thicker than the Water of the Womb.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,

Genesis 3:1–4 NASB95
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’ ” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!
Jesus Tempted
Make these stones become bread.
Deuteronomy 8:3 NASB95
3 “He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.
Matthew 4:5–6 NASB95
5 Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will command His angels concerning You’; and On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’ ”
Satan correctly quotes Psalms 91. But Jesus points out that this application of God’s word contradicts other passages.
Matthew 4:7 NASB95
7 Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”

Verse of the Day

Famous story of a man that was struggling with what he was supposed to be doing with his life.
Opens the bible.
Matthew 27:5 NASB95
5 And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.
That can’t be right.
Luke 10:37 NASB95
37 And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”
Wait a minute. This isn’t working.
John 13:27 NASB95
27 After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”

Rules for reading the Bible

Definition
Mark 10:25 NASB95
25 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
2. Usage
First to the Jew
Romans 1:16 NASB95
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
3. Context
Camel: Hard vs. impossible
Mark 10:27 NASB95

Mormons: 1 Cor. 8:5(b)

“as indeed there are many gods and many lords”

1 Corinthians 8:5–6 NASB95
5 For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords, 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.
4. Historical Background
We don’t have to be experts in Ancient Jewish History. But we should know some about their culture. Agrarian …..…
Putting on readers.
5. Logic
1 Corinthians 6:9–11 NASB95
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
6: Precedent
Bereans: Acts 17:11
Acts 17:11 NASB95
11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
The more you want something to be true, the harder you should examine it.
