Hebrews: Foundations for Faith Study 4: God’s Rest (Hebrews 4)

2. In what three senses does the writer use the word rest? (Note Hebrews 3:17–19 and 4:3–5; 4:1–3 and 6–10; 4:4.) See Leader’s Notes.

Rest from the time of slavery; rest from war with ones enemies; rest in a trusting and believing heart. (past, present and future) Philippians 4:5–7 (ESV)
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
