It’s Personal W4
Summary
Desire + Discipline = Destination
The Bible is reliable, beneficial, and essential
Quiet Time ought to lead us to a place of confession
Main Point: Sacrifice in the life of a believer is the fuel that keeps our attitude focused. Are you willing to sacrifice today?
We live in a culture that seeks comfort and pushes for selfishness. We are called to be different from our culture.
Romans 12:1-2- I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Fasting and giving are co-related because they mean we must sacrifice our time, comfort, and resources. Not because we have to but because of God’s mercy
Both Fasting and Giving are commanded in the old testament for Jews and are principles that we ought to implement in our walk with Christ.
Fasting

Matthew 4:2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he [Jesus] was hungry.
Matthew 9:15 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Matthew 6:16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Giving

2 Corinthians 9:6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[d] will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that having all sufficiency[e] in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Fasting focuses our mind on prayer while giving focuses our mind on reliance. Or at least it should.
