Q. Have you ever wondered why a good God would let bad things happen
this is the problem of evil
keeps many from faith in God
we get the explenation to this problem here in genesis 3
and see that the evil in this world does not jepordize Gods good character at all.
we also will see who the author of evil is
and how his goal is to make you question Gods goodness
recap----creation…makes man in Gods image …6 days… God rested …
We saw How God made man out of the dust of the earth,,,
and then took the rib of Adam to make eve.....the very first wedding
man will leave His mother and father and cling to his wife .
we even see the gospel that aJesus left the father to save His bride, the church.
now we get told about the serpent
Snake----satan ----seems to be the spiritual being of satan took on the form of a serpent ---many theories about this..
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
Imediately see Satan is crafty
Goal is to get you to question Gods goodness.
Did God really say????
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
tree of knowledge of good and evil
Touch it---added a commandment that wasnt there
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Lies Lies Lies
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Dont believe the lies of the enemy

Satan is a real enemy
Job to lead you into temptation and sin
question Gods Goodness.
He will constantly lie to you.
q. What are some lies the enemy will use to keep you from following God?
Hes not real
He doesnt hear you
God doesnt want you ----
your sin is too big---
His goal is to get you to question God… Did he really say

Jesus in the wilderness.....
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Never Gods intention
first sin
result of their knowledge of good and evil brought death spiritually

byproduct of the shame you feel from your disobedience.
like when I broke my moms clock ,, I immediately went to my room to hide.
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Blame game
serpent is Gods adversary, as well as yours
God deals out consequences to the people involved.
So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

emnity is hatred, strife,,, Satan is the enemy of mankind
Between her seed an your seed ---He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heal

He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Q. Why do we have evil in the world?
because sin entered and cursed it.
Sin has corrupted the world not God.
Q. What are some terrible effects of sin in the world.
murder, rape, cheating, oppression, slavery, earthquakes, hurricanes, deformities.
How many people blame God for these things.
Result of sin in the world....
the world we live in is cursed.
if God is so good why doesnt he just take out everything in the world that is sinful....
then He would need to take you out as well.
We are cursed by sin in our own lives.
depression, victimhood, anxiety, eating disorders, lust, anger,
dont get angry at God get angry at the serpent.
rejoice in God for He has made a way to find peace while on earth
and a promise of healing in heaven.
This can only happen through the gospel.
Jesus is literally lifting the curse of sin.
lets finish up the chapter
To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”
pain in childbirth
curse on marriage---wife will try to take leadership role
husband will try to rule harshly
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”
Big problem that Adam was weak in his leadership.
harder farming conditions
working for enjoyment to working hard
physical death.... not supposed to be that way.
God created good----man corrupted it with the leadership of satan
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them. Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Q. can anyone share when they found themselves in a messy situation?
Adam and eve plunged humanity into sin
your failures cant be that much worse

is a judge good if he doesnt punish crimes
this system was a picture of what Jesus would do
then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus....
the only one worthy of this sacrafice—to pay for the sin of the world
not an animal---but is God Himself.
instead of destroying this creature from the dirt
He offered mercy forgivness
God offers this same type of mercy and forgivness to you....
no matter how bad you mess up.
A. protection---
sent Him out of garden to prevent him from eating of the tree of life.
prevent an eternal sinful state.
protected tree with cheribum and a flaming sword.
remember the world was very different when God created it.
Bible uses imagery— what does it look like to have a cheribum and flaming sword guarding the garden???
however it looked like, It was done because of Gods love and protection for Adam and eve ..
conclude with the problem of evil …Why do bad things happen if God is good.
bad things happen because of Sin
This makes Gods goodness magnified.. because He offers forgivness to all.
These first three chapters are foundational

man made in the image of God for relationship

Sets the stage for Jesus and the gospel…
will you trust in Him for salvation
