According to Esther 2:7, Esther’s Jewish name was Hadassah (Myrtle tree)- The symbol of Myrtle tree symbolize peace, love and prosperity. The name Esther in Persia equivalent stara (‘Star’)
In the Old Testament, only the book of two women were written (Ruth and Esther).
Also, Esther is one the book that did not mention the name of God. The other book is the song of solomon.
reasons for the absence of God names
God seems most absent in human affairs, he may be most present and at work.
God’s displeasure with his people may be espressed by his seeming absence and silence
God is absent because of the other’s fear of Persian censorship of his book
These are good reasons why the name of God wasn’t appear in the book of Esther. However, we do wee the work of God.
Who is Esther?
This queen was an orphange, her uncle, Mordecia. took care of her. Because she follows her uncle instructions, she became the queen.
After she became queen, Haman plan to kill the Jews. This plan was discover by Mordecia, but he did not know how to get into the palace and tell Esther.
Mardecia put on sackcloths and ashes went into the middle of the city and cried loudly and bitterly.
His actions was to catch Esther’s attention by showing her he was grieving.
At first, Esther sent cloths to her but he wouldn’t accept it.
Later on, Esther found out the reasons why her uncle did what he did.
Although she heard her uncle reasons, she told her uncle that those who enter the palace without the King’s invitation will put to death
So this what Mordecia told Esther:
Esther 4:13–17 CSB
Mordecai told the messenger to reply to Esther, “Don’t think that you will escape the fate of all the Jews because you are in the king’s palace. If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will come to the Jewish people from another place, but you and your father’s family will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.” Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and assemble all the Jews who can be found in Susa and fast for me. Don’t eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my female servants will also fast in the same way. After that, I will go to the king even if it is against the law. If I perish, I perish.” So Mordecai went and did everything Esther had commanded him.
Hesitate
Why she hesistte? because she is afraid.
Although Esther got scared, Mordecia reminds Esther who she is… She is also Jews and she will not escape her fate.
If she is Silent, God will deliever the Jews in another way, but her fahter’s family will be destroyed.
Who knows perhaps she is the position for such a time as this (Mordecia)
Maybe a lot of things going on in Esther’s mind. We don’t know what is she going through during that face. But she might feel overwheliming.
However, Mordecia, as the gurdian of Esther. He guides her in the right path.
Hesitation silent us most of the time. We hesitate because we don’t want to do… we hesitate because we don’t know what to chose. We hesistate because we don’t want to participate.
Illustration:
As we see, although Esther seems to hesitate do take actions, her uncle did not hesitate to point out things to her. He wasn’t silent…he took actions
Delete hesitate and participate
2. Participate
a. Fast for me, Don’t eat or drink for three days
-In the old testament Jews people fast; we talk about fasting in the Bible study. it helps us.... we deny ourselves and walk according to God’s way
Before Jesus did ministry, he fast for 40 days and night
b. my servent I will also fast
-She does not only commands people to do it, she also fast--- Pherhaps her severnt is also jews
Her actions here deleniate is that she is putting her faith in God; who can do the impossible things to possible
c. She knew she might not come back, but she didn’t care.
she said, “If i perish I perish”
She’s no longer afraid of this earthly King, and put her faith in the God who delieverd them from Egypt
Participation and dedication takes place here
Implication: In our lives, we might hesitant (silent) more than participate and let other hear our voices. If that happened to be you, you should do something about it.
