What is a good friend like?
Friends are really important!
When you’re having a bad day, they can tell you a joke to make you feel better.
When things are awesome, they’re with you to celebrate.
Friends make things more fun!
How do you choose your friends?
More than likely, the friends you have are friends that live close to you, or maybe they go to the same school.
But choosing friends requires something that we call “wisdom.”
Get the kids to say “wisdom” out loud.
We have talked a lot about “knowledge,” which means, “what you know” in your mind.
Wisdom is what you do with that knowledge that’s in your mind.
Wisdom is doing what you should!
Let’s talk about how we can be wise when it comes to choosing good friends.
Proverbs 13:20 NLT
20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.
According to this verse, hanging out with will help us, what?\
Yes, become wiser!
That’s pretty cool, right?
But the second part of the verse is also true.
Do you remember what it said?
“Associate with fools and get in trouble.”
Do you know what a fool is?
A fool is somebody that does the wrong thing.
So this verse means that if you hang out with friends who don’t make smart choices, you’ll be much more likely to find yourself in trouble, too.
This isn’t about leaving someone out or being unkind.
When it comes to close friends you spend time with, it’s wise to choose friends who do the right thing so that you’ll want to do the right thing, too!
Choosing your friends is a BIG DEAL!
Let’s make sure that the people we spend the most time with are people who will make us wiser.
So remember, if you want to be wise, hang out with wise people.
Discussion Questions:
What’s a wise choice that you have made lately?
