Text: Exodus 28:1-3
Intro: God established the garments as ________________________ and that it was to be for _____________________ and for ______________________. We see the description of each piece of this garment given in (Exodus 28:4). When Aaron and his sons were consecrated for the office of priesthood, the garments were arranged and put on him in a certain order. (Exodus 29:1-9) The Lord began with the ____________________ and so our study begins here with this most inward portion of the priestly garment.
We have talked about linen in our lesson previously on the fence of the court yard and our study here will use that as a jumping off point.
And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.
And they made coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons,
Linen was made from flax, and was a picture of that which came from the earth, it represented the humanity of Christ. However, fine linen as previously discussed was white in color and was a picture of his _________________________humanity. (Revelation 19:8 “…arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.”
We have spent the last few weeks discussing the many differences between the priesthood that is earthly (Aaron’s) and the one that is eternal (Christ’s) and I believe it is important that we see those differences. Now that we have seen the differences, let’s talk about the similarities and how Aaron truly was a picture or type of the Lord Jesus Christ.
When these inner garments were placed upon Aaron, they were what was closest to his heart, and represented his character before the Lord and the people. Being the one separated for the service nearest to God, this garment represented that which was pure, clean, and sinless. (We understand that Aaron was not these things, but the garment represented something bigger.)
The Testimony of Christ: (He fulfilled the meaning of the coat made from fine linen) He is __________________________!
Pilate:
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
Pilate’s wife:
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
Herod:
And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
The Thief of the Cross:
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
The Centurion:
And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
Stephen:
Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
Peter:
But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
John:
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Paul:
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Devils:
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
The Holy Spirit:
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
The Father:
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
His Own:
Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
The answer of this question nearly 2000 years later is still, _______________.
Men of all sorts of backgrounds, experiences, and conditions testified to the perfectness of the life of Christ. Even when the pharisees sent to have Him arrested, the arresting officers had this to say about Him.
The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
Others said this,
And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
Christ indeed was righteous in all He did. Perfect in deed, perfect in word, perfect in thought, the ________________ Man!
This holy garment, the linen coat, in all of the wonder of its weaving, the embroidery, the perfection of the needlework all testified of the beauty, and glory, of the holiness of Christ! Holiness, which was seen in every fiber of His human nature.
