JESUS THE SNAKE CRUSHER

He is writing the same story. That God wants to be in relationship with you and i. And sin continually breaks our relationship with God. But God wants to restore it.

Set up Gen 2.

Genesis 2:16–17 (NIV)

And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Death has been the punishment then, it is the punishment now. Thats the rule.

Genesis 3:1 (NIV)

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

SERPENT IS

SATAN

EVIL ONE

CRAFTY

LIAR

ASK , “DID GOD REALLY SAY YOU MUST NOT EAT OF ANY TREE IN THE GARDEN

NO! What did he say, You can eat from any tree just not the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Do you see the trap Eve believed?

SHE BELIEVED THE LIE THAT GOD IS HOLDING OUT.

JESUS SAYS SATAN IS ALWAYS LYING, THAT HE IS THE FATHER OF LIES.

Genesis 3:2–6 (NIV)

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” 4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

do you see what happed? she was sucked into the same lies that we get sucked into. These are the same tricks Satan uses on you and I.

THESE ARE THE SAME TRICKS HE USED ON JESUS.

SATAN IS CRAFTY BUT NOT CREATIVE.

HE USES THE SAME TRICKS TO GET US OFF TRACK.

Genesis 3:7 (NIV)

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

WHAT DOES VERSE 6 AND 7 TELL US? - THAT ADAM WAS WITH EVE BUT HE DID NOT SPEAK UP. HE WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE TO SPEAK UP. HE DID NOT STOP HER OR LEAD HER TO OBEYING GOD.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO US TOO. WE HAVE FRIENDS WHO DO THE WRONG THING BUT WE DIDN’T SPEAK UP AND WE FOLLOWED THEM DOWN THE WRONG PATH.

OR MAYBE YOU ARE THE ONE WITH THE BAD CHOICE OR IDEA BUT NO ONE CALLED YOU OUT.

THIS IS OUR STORY. THEIR STORY IS THE SAME AS OURS.

Genesis 3:8 (NIV)

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

WHY ARE THEY HIDING?

THEY KNEW THEY DISOBEYED AND THEREFORE HID FROM GOD.

SIN ALWAYS SEPERATES US FROM GOD.

BUT LOOK AT GOD’S RESPONSE TO SIN

Genesis 3:9 (NIV)

9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

GOD IS WALKING TOWARD THEM. HE IS THE ONE WHO STARTS THE CONVERSATION. HE IS THE ONE THAT MOVES TOWARD US.

THINGS BEING FIXED BETWEEN MAN AND GOD ALWAYS STARTS WITH GOD.

Genesis 3:10–11 (NIV)

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

NOTICE HOW GOD RESPONDS. HE SO GENTLE, SO LOVING. HE ASKS QUESTIONS

BUT DOESN’T GOD ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER? YES!

HE IS ASKING BECAUSE HE IS LOVING AND PATIENT.

Genesis 3:12 (NIV)

12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

ADAM AGAIN DOESN’T TAKE RESPONSIBLITY. HE BLAMES EVE

BUT HE DOESN’T JUST BLAME EVE.

WHO ELSE DOES HE BLAME? HE ALSO BLAMES GOD FOR GIVING HIM EVE

GOD GAVE ADAM TO EVE AS A GIFT, AS A PARTNER AND A FRIEND

Genesis 3:13 (NIV)

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

EVE DOESN’T TAKE RESPONSIBLITY EITHER. SHE BLAMES THE SERPENT.

Genesis 3:14–15 (NIV)

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

GOD SHOWS HIS ENTIRE PLAN OF THE BIBLE, RIGHT HERE.

HE IS SAYING THAT THE OFFSPRING OF EVE WILL BE THE ONE WHO DEFEATS SATAN.

THIS IS ALL POINTING TO JESUS. RIGHT HERE

JESUS WAS AT CREATION AND THIS IS POINTING TO JESUS COMING TO EARTH WITH THE GOAL OF DEFEATING SATAN.

Genesis 3:16 (NIV)

16 To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

GOD OUTLINES THE CONSEQUENCES FOR EVE.

17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

HE OUTLINES THE CONSEQUENCES FOR ADAM.

THERE ARE THREE THINGS I WANT TO POINT OUT.

GOD CURSES SATAN.

GOD CURSES THE GROUND.

BUT GOD DOES NOT CURSE ADAM AND EVE. THEY HAVE CONSEQUENCES FOR THEIR SIN, BUT THEY ARE NOT CURSED.

GOD IS BEING GRACIOUS HERE BUT HE IS ALSO BEING A FATHER WHO DICINPLES OUT OF LOVE.

A LOVING FATHER DICIPLINES. THEY GET THEIR KIDS BACK ON TRACK.

GOD MOVES FIRST BECAUSE HE LOVES. THEY DON’T APPROACH GOD FIRST.

HE IS THE ONE WHO HAS THE RESUCE PLAN. HE MOVES FIRST.

Genesis 3:20 (NIV)

20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.

ADAM NAMES HIS WIFE EVE. IF YOU NOTICE, BEFORE THIS MOMENT SHE HAD NO NAME.

ADAM NAMES HER BECAUSE SHE IS GOING TO BE THE MOTHER OF ALL THE LIVING.

SHE IS GOING TO BE THE ONE WHO’S OFFSPRING WILL CRUSH SATANS HEAD, CONQUERING DEATH.

Genesis 3:21 (NIV)

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

GOD MADE THEM GARMENTS OUT OF SKIN.

REMEMBER, IT IS SIN THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM OF SHAME AND NAKEDNESS.

BUT GOD IS THE ONE THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM.

Genesis 3:22 (NIV)

22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”

THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EAT FROM THE TREE OF LIFE BECAUSE OF THE PUNISHMENT GOD GAVE.

THE PUNISHMENT FRIST COMES AS A SPIRITUAL DEATH. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO JUST TOUCH THE TREE AND FALL OVER DEAD.

THE PUNISHMENT IS FIRST SPIRITUAL DEATH - THEY ARE SEPARATED FROM THE SOURCE OF SPIRITUAL LIFE. THEY ARE SEPARATED FROM GOD.

THIS TREE OF LIFE, HERE IN GENSIS IS ALSO IN ONE OF THE LAST CHAPTERS OF THE BIBLE.

Genesis 3:23–24 (NIV)

23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.

24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

REMEMBER THE TREE OF LIFE, YOU EAT FROM IT, YOU LIVE FOREVER

THIS IS THE LAST CHAPTER OF THE BIBLE. AND JESUS IS TALKING

Revelation 22:12–14 (NIV)

12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

JESUS LIVED, DIED, SAT AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, RESSURECTED FROM THE DEAD, APPEARED TO HIS DISIPLES, ASCENDS TO HEAVE. BUT HE PROMISES HIS DISCIPLES HE IS GOING TO COME BACK

JESUS IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END. HE IS AT CREATION. HES PRESENT HERE, HE’S PRESENT IN CHAPTER 3 GOING CRUSH SATAN’S HEAD. HE IS PRESENT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT.

HE IS THERE IN THE GOSPELS. AND HE’S HERE ON THE LAST PAGE.

HE IS TALKING ABOUT THE NEW JERUSALEM. HE IS TALKIGN ABOUT LIFE IN THE GARDEN BECAUSE THATS WHERE THE TREE OF LIFE IS.

HOW DO YOU WASH YOUR ROBE? IT IS THE BLOOD OF JESUS WHO WASHES OUR SIN. HE HAVE HIS LIFE FOR US.

SATAN WAS STRIKING HIS HEAL BUT JESUS CRUSHES HIS HEAD. THATS WHAT JESUS WAS DOING ON THE CROSS

HE WAS CRUSHING SATAN. HE PAYED THE PUNISHMENT OF SIN IN FULL WITH HIS BLOOD. AND ITS BY HIS BLOOD THAT WE ARE SAVED.

WE SEE THE TREE OF LIFE IN GENESIS, WE SEE IT HERE IN REVELATION.

THE STORY OF GENESIS 3 IS THE STORY OF THE WHOLE BIBLE.

THAT GOD LOVES SO HE CREATES, BUT MAN SINS AND GOES AGAINST HIS RULES, BUT GOD CHASES MAN DOWN IN THEIR REBELLION

GOD’S THE REDEEMER, GOD’S THE FIXER, GOD IS THE RESCUER, GOD IS THE SAVIOR

GOD SACRIFICES HIMSELF, GIBING HIMSELF TO MAKE A WAY

JESUS SUMS IT UP IN JOHN 14:6

John 14:6 (NIV)

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

HE IS THE WAY, HE IS THE PATH, HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO THE FATHER, HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO THE TREE OF LIFE. HE IS THE STORY.

HE IS THE WAY FOR EVERYSINGLE ONE OF US

YOU MAY KNOW THAT TRUTH, YOU’VE ACCEPTED THAT TRUTH, AND YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS STORY IN GENESIS 3 IS YOUR STORY

AND ITS NOT JUST A STORY OF DISSAPOINTMENT, OF SIN, IT IS ALSO A STORY OF HOPE.

JESUS, THE SNAKE CRUSHER, THE ONE WHO DEFEATED SIN AND DEATH IS COMING BACK.

AND IF YOU HAVE NEVER KNOWN THE STORY OF HOPE AND NEVER ACCEPTED THAT STORY OF HOPE THEN IM SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE TONIGHT.
