Mark 5:21–24 (NLT)
21 Jesus got into the boat again and went back to the other side of the lake, where a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. 22 Then a leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, arrived. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet, 23 pleading fervently with him. “My little daughter is dying,” he said. “Please come and lay your hands on her; heal her so she can live.” 24 Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him.
State:
There is urgency / desperation/ a sense of time is of the essence
Interuption:
Woman with the issue of Blood
This is an interesting interruption to Jairus’ desperation to get Jesus to his daughter.
1st there is a large crowd slowing Jesus’ pace
2nd, Jesus stops to ask who touched him and heals a woman- another delay
Finally word comes that his daughter is dead.
Imagine Jairus waiting on the sidelines knowing his daughter is at death’s door.....and while Jesus is healing a woman…his daughter dies!
A woman gets healed while his daughter dies
What is Jairus feeling?
What do you feel like when you are asking for a miracle/touch from God and someone else gets their prayer answered?
Lazarus
Jesus was purposefully late
Jesus said about Lazarus:
John 11:14–15 NLT
14 So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. 15 And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.”
Mark 5:35–36 NIV
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” 36 Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
State:
Jesus knew what this kind of news would have done to whatever faith Jairus had.
Whatever faith Jairus had when he came to Jesus, it was not a faith that thought Jesus could raise from the dead.
Jesus emmediately encouraged Jarius’s faith.
Matthew 12:20 (NIV)
20 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
(Imagine exercise)
Picture in your mind what it looked and sounded like when Jesus turned to Jairus and said this.
What you have seen is what Jesus is saying to you
State:
Mark D. Raising the Dead (5:35–43)

Jesus was asking Jairus for more than a single act of belief. He was telling him to have a continuous, steady, ongoing faith—a “no-matter-what” type of faith, the type all Christians are called to exhibit

Mark 5:38–40 NLT
38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. 39 He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” 40 The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying.
State:
The people around you in your life might be a hinderance to your miracle happening.
Mark 5:41–42 NLT
41 Holding her hand, he said to her, Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!” 42 And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed.
Summary:
1) If you feel an urgency for your prayer/need to be met by God and it seems to be delayed.....don’t panic
2) If the situation seems past fixing.....don’t panic
