Sons of God
Romans 8 part 2
I would like to continue with our new series on the book of Romans.
This book is considered Paul’s masterpiece, a very well-constructed summary of Christian Theology.
Considered by many one of the most important books ever written on the Christian faith.
Today we are on the second part of chapter 8, 12-30 of the book of Romans.
Last week we talked about the difference between condemnation and conviction from the Holy Spirit.
Jesus gave us a new story and condemnation is no longer a part of it.
Today let’s talk about
The Sons of God
Let’s pray
1 We are Alive in Christ Jesus
1 We are Alive in Christ Jesus
Rom 8:10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
He explain a little more in the book of Ephesian’s
Eph 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
Eph 2:2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
Eph 2:3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.
Eph 2:4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
Eph 2:5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Eph 2:6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
There are a few things that we need to embrace with all of our hearts because they are facts.
This is not for the future this happened and is happening right now.
Jesus the son of God came into the world and demonstrated the Love of God right here on earth.
He lived a perfect life without sin.
Jesus was crucified, He died for the sins of the world,
Jesus was raised from the dead on the third Day
He ascended into Heaven
Right now He is seating at the right hand of the Father
Jesus has won the victory, death and satan are defeated
And yes He is coming back again
when he comes back is to welcome those who love him and restore creation
Rom 8:12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
Rom 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
the only way to walk in the Holy Spirit is by putting to death the deeds, the works of the flesh, let me clarify what that is.
Paul writes in His letter to the churches In Galatia.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
Gal 5:21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Kill the works of the flesh in your mind, in your heart, in your physical body is the only way to avoid them and set your mind, heart and body in the Holy Spirit.

Rom 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Sons of God
From time to time I hear sincere people sharing their opinion saying we are all children of God, God created everyone so we are all his children.
Not so fast, there is a very important step leading us from being created by God, to becoming a son of God and that is
Adoption
Adoption specially for the Romans, who Paul was writing to, he was at Gaius house in Corinth, when he wrote to believers in Rome
The first traces of adoption can be found as far back as ancient Rome. Under 6 th century AD Roman Law,
when the family patriarch was about to die without a male heir, an heir could be provided from another family through adoption. They would lose the rights from the family of origin but they would receive full rights in the family who adopted them, as a son would, including the inheritance.
Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Rom 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Its important to discern the difference between the spirit of slavery and the spirit of sonship
40 years ago I had a professor name Jack Winter, he was one of the first ones talking about the fatherhood of God, during his ministry he impacted and helped to transformed the life of a man name Jack Frost, he wrote a few books on sonship and the orphan Spirit, both of them are now with Jesus.
By Jack Frost
If you (or a church) have an orphan spirit, as I did for a long time, you feel as though you don’t belong.
Love, value, honor, and acceptance are foreign concepts to you.
You believe you have to act right, dress right, talk right, and do right in order to be loved and accepted; and even then, it still doesn’t happen.
You feel as if there is something more you have to do or put in order to find rest and feel valued.
With a spirit of sonship, however, you feel loved, valued, honored, and accepted for who you are as God’s creation. You have no need to “prove” yourself to anyone.
As a son or daughter, you feel a sense of total love and acceptance. Contrarily, as an orphan, you feel like you are on the outside looking in, trying as hard as you can to perform and be good enough to earn a place in someone’s heart.
Rom 8:17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
If you are a follower of Christ you will suffer persecution, we need to know that we will have this privilege.
We all suffer, in different levels, but we all suffer.
2Ti 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
We are a minority in a fallen world, we will be persecuted, in a world of 7 billion people plus we have less then a billion Christians, and from this number we know that are many who are just nominal Christians they don’t have a relationship with Jesus.
Rom 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Paul suffered a few things,
2Co 11:25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;
2Co 11:26 on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;
2Co 11:27 in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.
2Co 11:28 And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches.
2Co 4:17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
3 The Holy Spirit is continually helping us.
3 The Holy Spirit is continually helping us.
Rom 8:26 In the same way the Spirit, too, is helping us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself pleads for us with unspeakable yearnings,
Rom 8:27 and He who searches our hearts knows what the Spirit thinks, for He pleads for His people in accordance with God's will.
Rom 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
I don’t Know about you, but when I go to a prayer meeting or I just sit down to pray, I never know what I’m going to pray, I have a general Idea, but I purposely ask the Holy Spirit to guide me, He always surprise me.
He is constantly helping us in our weakness,
In the church I attended with my mother when I was a child it appeared to me that a respectful and good prayer was when they prayed in the kings James version with a certain intonation in their voices. I don’t know how many of those prayers pass the ceiling of the church, but it impressed everyone around them.
The Holy Spirit will lead us in effective prayers, sometimes is even in tongues, and we don’t have the complete understanding, but is powerful.
Sons of God
We are Alive in Christ
We are Heirs with Christ
The Holy Spirit is continually helps us.
Are you a son or a daughter of God?
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Joh 3:16
To receive Him we need to accept Him as God’s son,
repent from our sins and a life of selfishness,
asking Him to be your Lord and savior, not that you deserve it, but is a gift from God.
If this is your desire today, please repeat this prayer after me?
Heavenly Father I’m sinner, I’m sorry for my sins, I’m willing to turn away from my sins.
I receive Christ as my savior,
I confess him as Lord
from this moment on I want to follow and serve him,
in the fellowship of his church,
In Jesus name. Amen!
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke itand said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.
1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks thiscup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Heb 9:14 dead works, acts, sins
