Introduction

Background

Our text today found in the first book of the bible. We see a man by the name of Jacob. Jacob is on his way to meet with his brother Esau. He’s a little worried because he isn’t sure if Esau is coming to meet him in peace or if Esau was still angry with him.
Jacob had stolen Esau’s birthright and his father’s blessing. He had been living with is uncle Laban and now God had given him the instructions to return home. He sent servants to let Esau know that he was on the way and the servant returned saying that Esau was on the way to meet him with 400 men with him. This scared Jacob. Jacob sent gifts before him to appease Esau. He finally sent his family ahead of him and the text says he was in that place all alone. Hosea 12:4 “Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: He wept, and made supplication unto him: He found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;”
So with the Added from the Prophet Hosea, we understand that the moment he sent everyone away, the moment he find himself alone, that when the Angel showed up.

Move #3: Even when you find yourself wounded, you must continue to hold on.

Conclusion

Jacob left with a blessing. What will you get out of this fight that you’re in? I don’t know how you feel about it, but I refuse to have to fight, and not get anything out of it. I’m going to keep on fighting until I get my blessing. If I have to fight for a while, I’m going to keep on fighting until I get my blessing. I can’t give up, I can’t quit, I can’t let go, I got to get something out of it. I came in this fight depressed, but I’m going to leave this fight with blessed, I came in this fight sick, but I am going to leave this fight blessed, I came in this fight, overwhelmed, but I am going to leave this fight blessed. I’m not going to leave this fight without my blessing. ....
Last thing and then we’re going to praise him...
Jacob went in to the fight, in the midst of the fight he was hurt, and according to our text he left the fight limping. To most people, an injury is a sign of defeat, to most people, an injury is a sign of losing a battle. But in the text, Jacob went came out the fight limping, but he also come out of the fight blessed.
That’s where I believe I’ll drop you off at. Some of you have been fighting for a long time, you’ve been fighting for your relationships, you’ve been fighting for your families, you been fighting for your marriages, you’ve been fighting for your sanity, you’ve been fighting for your peace, you’ve been fighting for your joy, you’ve been fighting for a long time but in the process you got hurt and it caused you to become bitter, but I come this way to tell you, don’t allow your hurt to make you bitter, allow your hurt to make you better. Why is that Pastor? That’s because you’re not the only one who knows what it is like to be wounded. You’re not the only one who knows what it is like to be hurt.
The Prophet Isaiah said, “He was wounded for my transgression, bruised for my iniquity, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.
They whipped Jesus, till his back was shredded, he was hurt, they placed a crown of 72 thorns on his head, he was hurt, they put nails in his hand, he was hurt, they put rivet in his feet, he was hurt, hung him high, stretched him wide, but he looked down the corridors of time, saw you and me, so he didn’t become bitter, he said, father forgive them for they know not what they do. Jesus died, but a few days later he showed himself to a Disciple named Thomas, who said Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Jesus showed up and said, Put your finger in print of the nails, push your hand into my side.
What are you trying to tell us Pastor, Jesus even after the resurrection, had the wound from cross, but even though he had the wound, he still had all power.
So child of God, we’re getting ready to praise him because in spite of the injuries we sustained we can testify that we’re blessed. Help me close the sermon, grab your neighbor and say, “neighbor, I don’t know if you know what blessed look, but if you don’t, all you have to do is look at me.” I’m blessed in the city, i’m blessed in the field, I’m blessed when I come, I’m blessed when I go, My children is blessed, my marriage is blessed, my finances is blessed, everything I touch is blessed. Yes I may be wounded, but i’m blessed. I got something out of it, what did you get out of it, I got my blessing!!! Is there any blessed folk in this church? Is there any blessed folk in this house today? If you know you’re blessed, Be not dismayed, whatever betide.....
