Zion

Zion
Glorious things of thee are spoken
Zion, city of our God
He, whose word cannot be broken
Formed thee for His own abode
On the Rock of Ages founded
What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded
Thou may'st smile at all thy foes
See, the streams of living waters
Springing from eternal love
Well supply thy sons and daughters
And all fear of want remove
Who can faint, while such a river
Ever flows their thirst to assuage?
Grace which, like the Lord, the giver
Never fails from age to age
Blest inhabitants of Zion
Purchased by the Saviour's blood
Jesus, whom their souls rely on
Makes them kings and priests to God
While in love his Saints he raises
With himself to reign as King
All, as priests, his solemn praises
For thank-off'rings freely bring
Savior, if in Zion's city
I, through grace, a member am
Let the world deride or pity
I will glory in Thy name
Fading is the sinner's pleasure
All his boasted pomp and show
Solid joys and lasting treasure
None but Zion's children know
Hebrews 12:22–24 NIV
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
When the writer wrote the words which described the two mountains, it is clear that he had in mind much more than than physical historical mountains. It is doubtful whether any of his readers had ever seen or been anywhere near Mount Sinai, but the mention of it brought to mind the Law and the Giving of the Law. Everything connected with that was fearful and terrifying.
