I've been walking with Jesus for quite some time now, but let me tell you, it hasn't always been easy. Like many of you, I've had my ups and downs, my victories and struggles. But through it all, I've learned something crucial – following Jesus is more than just a statement of faith; it's a lifestyle, a pattern that we choose every single day.
I'm here today not as someone who has it all figured out, but as a fellow traveler on this journey of faith. I want us to explore together what it truly means to follow Jesus, especially when it challenges the patterns of our daily lives. So, let's dive into this together and see what God has in store for us."
You know, it's easy to say we follow God, especially when things are going great in our lives, right? We're quick to thank Him when we ace a test, win a game, or get that thing we've been praying for. But what happens when following God doesn't fit into our lives so neatly? What if it means changing some things about ourselves that we're used to or comfortable with?
Here's the truth: The world is not the problem; it's your pattern. What do I mean by that? Well, think about your daily routine. You wake up, maybe you check your phone, go to school or hang out with friends, maybe you play some sports or video games, and then you do it all over again the next day. But where does God fit into this pattern?
Salvation – that's accepting Jesus into your life – is totally free. It's a gift, and it's amazing! But here's the thing: Following Jesus is the battle. It's not just about saying we believe in Him; it's about living like we do. It's about changing our patterns to make room for Him.
Sometimes, the hardest part of this battle is the people we do life with. Our friends, our family, maybe even people at school. They might not understand why you're changing your routine or why you're suddenly talking about Jesus more. And that's okay! Remember, it's not about changing them; it's about changing you.
So, how do we do this? How do we change our patterns?
1. Make Time for God: Just like you make time for sports practice or to watch the Knicks game, make time for God. It could be prayer, reading the Bible, or just talking to Him about your day.
2. Find the Right Circle: Surround yourself with people who encourage your faith, not just your hobbies or interests. Find friends who challenge you to be better, who support your journey with Jesus.
3. Be Bold: Don't be afraid to be different. Following Jesus might mean you don't do some of the things your friends are doing. It might mean you stand up for what's right, even if it's not popular.
4. Remember, It's a Journey: Some days will be easier than others. You might mess up or feel like you're not making progress. That's okay. Following Jesus is a journey, not a one-time decision.
In closing, I want to remind you that changing your patterns isn't about being perfect. It's about being willing to let Jesus guide your life, even when it's tough. It's about choosing Him every day, in every decision, big or small.
You're not in this alone. God is with you, and so are the people who care about your journey with Him. Let's be brave together, change our patterns, and truly follow Jesus.
Amen.
