Deliverance Detectives
Welcome to DMT Session 2.
Before we get started I want to go over your homework from last week.
Barriers to serving as a Deliverance Minister:
Insecurity
Fear/Fear of Man/Fear of Not Hearing Holy Spirit/Fear of making the person worse/Fear of not being able to help
Resistance (possibly demonic)
Lack of trust in God
Not in a great place spriitually
Pride
Negative thoughts/emotions
Struggles in personal life
Lack of support from loved ones
Doubt/Self-doubt
Lies- Who am I to help someone else. I’m the one who should be getting ministry.
Too passive/Not confrontational enough
Not equipped
Need to forgive self for how I’ve hurt people in the past.
Tonight we are going to start peeling back the curtain of the role of a Deliverance Minister.
Many of you have heard me say that being a Deliverance Minister is like being a detective. The crime is the destruction going on in the person’s life and you (with the help of Holy Spirit) need to survey the crime scene and collect all of the evidence in order to find the culprits…which are the demons.
So we are going to cover what that evidence looks like and how you go about collecting it here in just a bit, but before that I want to go over a few practical things you need to know as you begin helping someone.
Deliverance Ministry should never be goal oriented. It needs to be relationship oriented. What I mean by that is that the goal isn’t to get the demons out…the goal is to help the person see Jesus in all of this. They need to see that Jesus has been with them and wants them free. If you sit down with a goal mindset, you will get impatient and you will lose your compassion and mercy quickly. A goal mindset puts the focus on your agenda rather than on the person being ministered to. Many Deliverance Ministers fall into this trap.
You want everyone coming to you for ministry to feel safe and at ease as much as possible. The demons will be stirred up most likely so it won’t always be easy. So rather than just getting right to business…talk to the person. Get to know them. Share a bit of who you are and why you do this kind of ministry. Make sure they know that you have struggled (are struggling) and have needed this ministry as well.
I highly encourage taking notes. It’s too easy to forget things and often you will have multiple sessions with someone and it will be hard to remember what you covered before and where you left off without notes. I personally have two sections of notes. I have one that keeps track of events and traumas in the persons life and another that tracks, Lies, generational curses and specific demons that will need to be cast out. Sometimes it will be impossible to take notes. Usually these are unexpected times of ministry where you may not have a notepad and pen handy. That’s ok. Just do your best to remember and if needed right down important details later.
Deliverance is not counseling. Counselling is part of it, but deliverance goes beyond that. No amount of listening, advice or wisdom will remove a demon. You will counsel, encourage, advise and listen to them, but you are also engaging in warfare on their behalf.
Remember that you are dealing with demonic powers here. This is serious business. These demons have been around a lot longer than you. They are smarter than you. They know the person you are dealing with better than the person or you knows them. The demons in that person will communicate to the demons in you. What would you do if a demon spoke out of the person you are ministering to and said, “You won’t even forgive what happened to you!? or “I know what you did last night.”
Demons will lie.
Demons will distract (Guy asked a question…talked for a long time, but never answered answered the question. It was a demon of distraction hoping we would forget that line of questioning!)
Demons will intimidate. (Story of the guy who tried to punch me) (Mission trip “episode”)
Demons will beg (Nai has a story)
Demons have a personality.
Demons have a will Matthew 12:44 “Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.”
Demons have emotions James 2:9 “but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.”
Demons have an intellect Mark 1:24 “saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!””
Demons have self-awareness Mark 5:9 “Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.””
Demons have the ability to speak. Sometimes the voice will change, but others it will not.
Make Sure Nai told her story
CSI- You are a SCSI (Spiritual Crime Scene Investigator)
3 Main ways to spot a demon:
You will see demons manifest. What do we mean by manifest? They will reveal themselves in unusual ways (eyes or look will change, strange smile, odd behavior, writhing/contorting, hissing, etc.)
Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Discernment- 1 Corinthians 12:8–12 “for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.”
The presence of God. The presence of the Holy Spirit will cause demons to manifest. Mark 9:20–22 “Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.””
