Philippians 2:14–15
Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world...
The Bible, as a whole, teaches us different things in different places.
Knowing where to go to find the answers is key to understanding the Bible as God’s Word. It is our Instruction Manuel for life.
A man will be recognized by others, based on the choices/decisions he makes in life.
Most people are naturally drawn to people who make good choices.
Its not about just doing what the rest of the crowd is doing, following your friends, just because they may be your friends, but actually making choices based on knowing what is the right thing to do.
Sometimes that is not easy...
Doing the right thing is not popular
Doing the right thing is not what the popular crowd whats to do.
Sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing to do.
Last time we talked about doing hard things. And splitting wood, building a fire and working together as a team were some of the hard things that you boys learned to do.
And thats great.
But what about your daily chores you have to do around the house.
Do you take out the trash, help with the dishes, or clean your room without grumbling, complaining or putting it off til the last minute?
In the moment it is always easier to put off doing the stuff we dont want to do, or dont like to do, or think we shouldnt have to do.
The problem is that eventually, we still end up having to do that stuff anyway.
When I was your age, I had to clean my room and get my dirty clothes ready for the laundry once a week.
Saturday, the day of morning cartoons, the Baseball Game of the Week and an afternoon of just hanging out with my friends in my neighborhood.
But first I had to clean my room…So as a typical kid of my age, what did I do??
(LET KIDS OFFER OPTIONS)
I would cram as much as I could under my bed, and whatever was left went into my closet.
Didnt really clean anything, just moved the mess around, and all I had to do with my jeans and shirts was to collect them up and toss them down the stairs so my Mom could collect them up and wash them.
So once a month my Dad would make me clean out from under the bed and my closet as well as the rest of the bedroom.
So did I really gain anything?
Did I even make the chore harder than it should have been?
So now lets look at other areas of life:
Is there someone that you really need to apologize to for something, but you havent?
Is there some thing in your life, that you’re doing- You know deep inside, that its wrong, but you do it anyway?
Maybe you get angry at others, a lot. Or just have a bad attitude about stuff?
These are issues that your KOZ leaders here can help you with.
Everybody struggles at times in life. You’re not alone in that, and you’re not the only one.
This is where knowing Jesus, having a daily personal relationship with Him is so important.
Last month we talked about prayer and what it is. Just talking to Jesus.
Our parents may have to get on us to clean our rooms/ do our chores. But have you let Jesus point out the things you do in your life that just adds to the clutter and doesnt really solve anything.
Any one of your KOZ leaders, will sit down and will listen to you and help you work out those issues.
So let’s all take a few minutes and think about some of those things that we might have to say, “I’m sorry” for.
PRAYER:
“Jesus, I thank you for this wonderful day you have given us. I thank you for all my friends here and my KOZ leaders.
I thank you for the support the leaders provide, and right now, I ask that you, Jesus, show me the things in my life that I need to clean up. Not just cram under the bed, but once and for all- Get rid of.
And, Jesus, I thank you for giving me the strength to the hard things in life…Amen”
SIT SPOT QUESTIONS:
1- SINCE EVERYONE HAS BAD DAYS- WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE HAVING A BAD DAY?
2- LIST SOME THINGS YOU KNOW YOU GRUMBLE ABOUT DOING AND NEED TO DO BETTER AT.
3- FIND A KOZ LEADER AND ASK HIM TO HELP YOU DO BETTER AT THOSE THINGS.
