the beginning of the way that most of the rest of the book is written
they will all make their arguments for and against Job’s cause as it pertains to the actions of God concerning Job
they will all do it by way of poetry
Job’s Lament
Job’s Lament
Job begins by being upset that he was ever born
it is important to note again that in all that he says, he does not curse God
he does not speak against God
he simply wishes that the unfortunate circumstance he has found himself in had never happened
hes a bit dramatic about it, but it would be hard not to be
Eliphaz’ Reasoning
Eliphaz’ Reasoning
this man offers the first counter to Job
the first one offers solution in that Job ought to seek after God
he talks about how God redeems, how he heals what is broken
that if Job would go to him he would regain a life worth holding on to
Job’s Answer
Job’s Answer
Job continues after this in the same tone regardless, knowing that he has served God and sought a relationship with him his whole life
simply seeking God isn’t the answer, because here he still sits
“God’s arrows are in him”
what we talked about Thursday, simply seeking God is not going to give the worldly answer to our worldly problems
Job does not speak against God, but he doesn’t understand very well either
Application
Application
as we continue on we will see more of this same idea
these are people reasoning about God that are not necessarily speaking against him
they just don’t know all that they are talking about
that’s the point of us having this book, that we might understand a little better who our God is
rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous
we live a life serving him even when we don’t understand and have hope in a life that comes after this one
