EDIFICATION

This is not a gray area!
Romans 15:1 CSB
Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves.
an obligation
What does it mean to bear the weaknesses?
Romans 15:2 CSB
Each one of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
FOR HIS GOOD
Matthew 22:36–40 ““Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.””
Does my action now build up others?
Those that have built me up.
Romans 15:3–4 CSB
For even Christ did not please himself. On the contrary, as it is written, The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures.
The insults fallen on Jesus
endurance and encouragement from what?
That means you have to be in the Scriptures!
Romans 15:5–6 CSB
Now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, according to Christ Jesus, so that you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with one mind and one voice.
Paul thoughts in a pray. WHY?
A great unity with others.
Romans 15:7 CSB
Therefore welcome one another, just as Christ also welcomed you, to the glory of God.
How did Jesus welcome you?
Romans 5:8–9 “But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath.”
How do you welcome one another?
“I want to be like MIKE”
Romans 15:8–13 CSB
For I say that Christ became a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises to the fathers, and so that Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praise to your name. Again it says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people! And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; let all the peoples praise him! And again, Isaiah says, The root of Jesse will appear, the one who rises to rule the Gentiles; the Gentiles will hope in him. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Christ was a servant.
Rejoice, you Gentiles
Do you see his prayer? Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
