The Lord Calls Abram

Joshua 24:2 “And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Long ago, your fathers lived beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods.”
Genesis 15:7 “And he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.””
See Acts 7:2-5...
It was roughly 600 miles from Ur to Haran. Then another 400 from Haran to the land of Canaan. That is roughly the distance from here in Plymouth to San Antonio, Texas or Jacksonville, Florida.
Romans 3:10–11 “as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.”
John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”

The Power of the Call

What could possibly make someone leave their way of life and everything they have ever known to follow the Lord?
See Hebrews 11:8-16 and Hebrews 11:24-26...
Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Matthew 10:37–38 “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”
1 Thessalonians 1:9 “For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,”
Romans 2:4 “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?”
Psalm 73:25–26 “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

The Promised Blessings

I’ll make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great, so you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and he who dishonors you I will curse. In you all the families of the earth will be blessed. I will give this land to you and your offspring.
John 4:22 “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.”
Galatians 3:7–9 and Galatians 3:27-29...
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Romans 10:12–13 “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.””
1 Peter 2:9–10 “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
1 Corinthians 12:13 “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” (See Ephesians 2:11-14 and John 10:14-16)
Romans 4:13 “For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.”
Matthew 5:5 ““Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
1 Corinthians 3:21–23 “So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”
Romans 8:31 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
