God does the casting

they are His waves and billows

Fear and Faith

(v 4-6)

Panic and overwhelmed, and a dash of hope

the power of “yet”

based on a promise from God (key that unlocks resources)

Worship in the Dark

(v 7-9)

Prayer is an act of worship- sacrifice and offering

Remembering is an act of worship (calling to mind)

calling to mind the mercies of God, the grace of God

claiming the promises of God:

come unto me Matt 11:28.

I am with you, even to the end of the age Matt 28:20

I will go that the Comforter may come John 14:26

I have come into the world as light John 12:46.

you will receive power Acts 1:8

granted all things pertaining to life and godliness 2 Peter 1:3-4.

all the promises of God are yes and amen 2 Cor 1:18-20.

This I call to mind…Lam 3:21-26

But this I call to mind,

and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

The Lord is good to those who wait for him,

to the soul who seeks him.

It is good that one should wait quietly

for the salvation of the Lord.

Jesus is greater...

greater sacrifice than Jonah- effective and enduring

greater preacher- voice that still echoes today, alive in His people

greater word from God-Jonah speaks to Nineveh, Jesus speaks to the world

greater servant- without fail or fault, serves even His enemies
