The Second Coming of Christ
Notes
Transcript
Intro; As we have been studying about the Second Coming of Christ, we have been looking at some of the signs that would lead up to this event. The main sign we have looked at so far is the “Rapture of the Church”. This is the tell tell sign that the Second Coming is just around the corner [7 year corner].
Tonight I want us to read the scripture of the actual Second Coming of Christ and begin to look at that day. Later we will go back and look at some signs Jesus gives as a foreshadow to this event.
Text; Rev. 19:11-21
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.
13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,
18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”
19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
This scripture reveals the wrath of God coming upon all evil in judgment by the King of King and Lord of Lords! This Day will bring a close to the Great Tribulation and introduce what is known as the Millennium, a 1000 year rule of Christ on the earth in peace and without the influence of satan and sin!
1. Contrasts Between First/Second Coming of Christ
1. Contrasts Between First/Second Coming of Christ
I gave you a handout several weeks ago that showed the contrast between the Rapture and the Second Coming. Tonight I want you to see some contrasts between the First and Second Coming of Christ. [Dr. David Jeremiah/The Great Disappearance]
First Coming of Christ Second Coming of Christ
Jesus was born in obscurity Jesus will be seen by every eye
Jesus was wrapped in swaddling clothes Jesus will be clothed royally in a robe
dipped in blood
Jesus was surrounded by animals and Jesus will be accompanied by the
common people massive armies of heaven
The door of the inn was closed to Jesus The door of heaven will be opened
to Him
Jesus voice was the cry of a baby Jesus’ voice will thunder as the sound
of many waters
Jesus was the Lamb of God who Jesus will be the Lion of the tribe of
came bringing salvation Judah who comes bringing judgment
The first coming is clearly for the benefit of man in salvation, where the Second Coming is solely focused upon the Lord’s judgment of evil.
Those who are lost and maybe even liberal believers have a hard time with this because they only think of God as love. But a loving God is also just in His dealings with men, and it will be a day of rejoicing for true believers when all wickedness and evil will be put in their place.
“God cannot be a good God if He allowed evil to forever corrupt the world that He created and pronounced to be good!” [Dr. David Jeremiah/The Great Disappearance]
2. Prophecies about His Second Coming;
2. Prophecies about His Second Coming;
Enoch was the first to prophesy of the Second Coming
14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
Daniel
13 “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him.
14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.
Isaiah
9 Behold, the day of the Lord comes, Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, To lay the land desolate; And He will destroy its sinners from it.
10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine.
11 “I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold, A man more than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, And the earth will move out of her place, In the wrath of the Lord of hosts And in the day of His fierce anger.
Amos
18 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! For what good is the day of the Lord to you? It will be darkness, and not light.
19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion, And a bear met him! Or as though he went into the house, Leaned his hand on the wall, And a serpent bit him!
20 Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light? Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?
Zechariah
3 Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle.
4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.
Jesus
Matthew 24:27–30 (NKJV)
27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Two Angels
11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey.
Paul
7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,
8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.
John
7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
Revelation 22:20 (NKJV)
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
