No Condemnation In Christ Jesus

As I come forward at the end of worship
SLIDE 1 “WELCOME TO CHURCH”
encouragement from worship
last week we started our message series “Walking By The Spirit”
You know no matter which week we are at in this series.........everyday this will be our struggle
SLIDE 2 “FLESH VS SPIRIT” the struggle is real
Why is that? Because we have a sin nature......because if you are a follower of Jesus Christ here this morning...... satan truly hates you.......and he feels like he has just the right wordly attraction to fire against you......or just the right thought he can plant in your mind........or maybe just the right words he wants you to say to hurt someone else or to hurt your testimony.
But we as followers of Christ have this desire to want to please God.....amen?
Last we saw to walk in the spirit the first step is to be born again and today we will see another amazing blessing we have in that.
So this morning the Lord wants to show us or remind us......what was set against us.........and what He did for us
SLIDE 3 “WALKING BY THE SPIRIT - NO CONDEMNATION....”
Paul does an amazing job in the book of Romans ans covers every facet of every kind of struggle the believer goes through.
Can we just admit today we all have them and we all have issues or certain struggles that many times differ from another believer?
I asked a certain person one day why they haven’t been going to church lately? ........Their response was that some else goes there and I know how they really are in life outside the church.
We are all a work in progress......... we all in need of a savior........... we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.........we are all in this together....amen?!!!
So Paul just puts it to rest right here in Romans 8 and for many followers of Christ is their favorite chapter in Romans........but for 16 chapters Paul breaks it all down and puts it all to rest of “what was set against us / what He did for us”!
Let’s read together shall we
SLIDE 4
Romans 8:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Why do I or did need to be set free from the law of death?
SLIDE 5
Romans 5:12 NASB95
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—
SLIDE 6
Romans 8:3–4 NASB95
3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
SLIDE 7
Romans 8:5–6 NASB95
5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
SLIDE 8
Romans 8:7–8 NASB95
7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
The New Living Translation says verse 7-8 like this and this helps bring more understanding
SLIDE 9
Romans 8:7–8 NLT
7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
Remember if I could sum up in my own words how to describe the law of God
I wish I could have been like some in the bible who were Godly all the time!
They all had struggles
Now Paul covers these struggles (for everyone) in chapter 7 and he puts himself in this place of his own struggles......
SLIDE 10
1 Timothy 1:15 NASB95
15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.
Paul even makes reference in 1 Timothy 1:15 that he feels like he could be the chief of sinners as he says in some translations
He says these things as well in Romans 7.
SLIDE 11
Romans 7:15 NASB95
15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.
SLIDE 12
Romans 7:18 NASB95
18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.
So if I find myself in this place of .........”man this is a fleshly place I’m in right now” OR “man I just don’t feel very pleasing to God lately”
What can we do about that? Or better yet what does God say to do about that?
SLIDE 13
Romans 8:12 NASB95
12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—
SLIDE 14
Romans 8:13–14 NASB95
13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
But in chapter 7 the Holy Spirit masterfully through Paul pins this into the word of God for us.
Paul uses the covenant of marriage to make God’s point of we have been made free from in Christ Jesus
explain about chapter 7...........
SLIDE 15
Romans 7:4 NASB95
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.
SLIDE 16
Romans 7:5–6 NASB95
5 For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. 6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.
Look this what the Lord revealed to me to maybe help understand better
Remember the law points out the sin right
Paul said it like this........he was referring to the law of covetness
SLIDE 17
Romans 7:9 NASB95
9 I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died;
SLIDE 18
Romans 7:10–11 NASB95
10 and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me; 11 for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.
SLIDE 19
Galatians 5:18–19 NASB95
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
SLIDE 20
Galatians 5:20–21 NASB95
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
SLIDE 21
Galatians 5:22–23 NASB95
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Now why is this important for our titled message of.......... no condemnation, what was set against us / what He overcame?
I think there is no better story to give us an example of this than the story of Judah and Tamar
