Introduction

The game Psych! This was a game that gave you permission to be a jerk to your friends. You could go up and say anything like, Jennifer Blair likes you, a lot! I think she wants you to ask her out! Really (as he gets a grin over his face) only to hear you say. Psych!
The reason it’s painful is because we hate to be disappointed. We hate to think that this world is over promising and under delivering.
But everywhere you look, that is what you find. Disappointments, because you thought that it would work out differently.
If you’ve become jaded? You are in the right place this morning because God never plays games with us.
Instead, he is the exact opposite! God always keeps his promises.

The Day of Pentecost

Today we are in Acts 2 historically called, The Day of Pentecost! Which is a major fulfillment of one of God’s promises in the Old Testament. God made a massive promise all throughout the Old Testament that he would pour out his Spirit on all flesh.
We have Old Testament promises in Joel and Ezekiel.
We have Jesus promising the Holy Spirit in John 14-16. When he tells us
And then post resurrection last week in Acts 1, we have Jesus telling his disciples to WAIT. On what? The promised Holy Spirit.
We then have Paul teaching us about the Holy Spirit by saying ‘the long expected’ Spirit of God.
This is a wonderful reminder of God is a Promise Keeper.
The Holy Spirit is present in the Old Testament days but in a much different capacity. If you remember the first reference to the Holy Spirit comes in Genesis 1 and we read that the Spirit of God ‘hovers over the face of the waters.’ And that is consistent in what we see in the Old Testament. However, a wonderful turn happens in the New Covenant. The Holy Spirit goes from Hovering to Indwelling.
