Texts: Isa 43:19; Rev 21:5; Lam 3:22-23; Rom 6:4; 2 Cor 5:17; Heb 1:5
Introduction: (What?)
God is all about doing things that have never been done before. In Genesis there had never been heaven or earth until God created them.
There had never been animals, fish, or birds until God created them.
There had never been human beings until God created them.
There had never been rain until God sent rain in the days of Noah.
On almost every page of scripture we find God doing “new things”. The fact that creation was completed in six days does not mean that God is no longer doing “new things”. We can’t put God in a box. (Children’s song: White box for Jesus; black box for the devil)
Examination: (Why?)
1. Isaiah 43:19 “Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”
2. Habakkuk 1:5–6 “Look at the nations and observe— be utterly astounded! For I am doing something in your days that you will not believe when you hear about it. Look! I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter, impetuous nation that marches across the earth’s open spaces to seize territories not its own.”
3. Lamentations 3:22–23 “Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!”
4. Romans 6:4 “Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.”
5. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!”
6. Hebrews 1:5 “For to which of the angels did he ever say, You are my Son; today I have become your Father, or again, I will be his Father, and he will be my Son?”
7. Revelation 21:5 “Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.””
Application: (How does this impact my life today? What am I going to do about it?)
Today we are seeing “new things” happening in Israel. We are seeing “new things” happening in Ukraine. And we are seeing “new things” happening in America at our southern border as well as in the halls of congress and from the Administration. What we are not seeing is that God is accomplishing His purposes in ways that we do not see. We must trust Him. We must cry out to Him. We must surrender to Him…not just once, but day after day.
Do you need a new start today? Are you holding on to the old things that are passing away? If your testimony ends with your profession of faith, it is an incomplete testimony. What has God done in your life lately? If the answer is “nothing” perhaps you need to ask God why and be willing to allow Him to do what He has always wanted to do in your life.
