Hey guys we are back and we are talking about boundless faith, how many of us have faith in God, all of yalls hands up, I hope your being honest. Sometimes I tend to have really big faith and then other days yall I feel like my faith is so small. Its easy to have faith when things Go bad, I can remember going to God whenever I would find out a family member was in the hospital or when someone could be sick but when I reflect on the time when I don’t have faith, or practice the faith that I am supposed to claim to have in Jesus its when I am just experiencing the day to day I notice my faith isn’t that very strong. Like not strong at all. As we are covering Boundless faith what is the challenge that you are willing to give yourself. Are you willing to challenge yourself to grow in your faith. Growth takes work, will you work for it? Are you faithful to God, what does that mean. What does it mean to be faithful,
Loyal, consistent, true,
Are we these things to God.
Think about your family for a second, and think about how it would be if your parent’s weren’t faithful to you,
now lets move to your friendships, If someone is not faithful to you as friend do you still wanna be friends with them? if there not loyal to you there not consistent with you, and then one day they they come back to you know, hey Nathan how is it been broooooo! I would be like, absolutely not.
Today were gunna look at another miracle that Jesus performed, and it took faith in the person that came to him, and it toook the faith of the man
New Living Translation (Chapter 5)
17 One day while Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of religious law were sitting nearby. (It seemed that these men showed up from every village in all Galilee and Judea, as well as from Jerusalem.) And the Lord’s healing power was strongly with Jesus.
18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, 19 but they couldn’t reach him because of the crowd. So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus. 20 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”
21 But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 23 Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? 24 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”
25 And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat, and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
I like reading the stories of Jesus in the book of Luke, because luke was physician, he was detailed, if you were to read this same story in the book of matthew it would hit, it just hits different in the book of Luke.
Last week we talked about Jesus healing the man in with Leperosy, and you know what happens when someone starts doing things like that. People hear about it. And thats what happens thats why we see the pharisees here. and thats why we see all of these people here.
Jesus was known for what he did. Being a faithful follower of Jesus is putting forth the effort to do so, you have to move, you have to serve, and we don’t strive to be seen but we should strive to show christ to people.
Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.”
When you say someones name, you can automatically think of what they have done and what they do. If i said wade ivy, there are some feelings that get brought up. If someone brings up chloes name I think about all the pastries and the goodness that she makes,
When people say your name, are they saying, yeaaaa so and so they did this, but most of all they are a child of God, they are a christ follower and I know they are because of this.
then it says
18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, 19 but they couldn’t reach him because of the crowd. So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus. 20 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”
Having boundless faith is Going after Jesus, yall need to go after Jesus like you go after your phone, you leave your phone somewhere else and you do everything you can to try and find it, Ive torn up my whole house looking for my phone before. Jesus is right here, Jesus is right here, so Go for him.
Jeremiah 29:12–13 “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Here the faith of these guys are in the way of going on top of a roof and taking off the tiles of it. to lower this man down there. Not only did they have faith, but the faith that they had was on behalf of thier friend.
Then it says they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd right in front of Jesus, Seeing heir faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus is a man about forgiveness yall, this is the first thing that he does,. I think sometimes this isn’t the first thing that we are looking to happen. We want Jesus, to do this and to do that for our lives, and sometiems we are full of sin when we ask.
Forgiveness, is everything, and you are forgiven
Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,”
Some of us have some dumb sin in our lives, some of us have some major sin in our lives, Go to him, and ask for forgiveness, Lord please forgive me of my sins, my sin of gossip, my sin lying my sin of anger
Having Boudnless faith is about standing out from the crowd.
But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 23 Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? 24 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Alot of yall are followers, you guys just follow what is popular. Does it feel good to be like everyone else? Im not saying you have to be weird, ya know but the guys that stood out to me in my life when I was in high school, I remember to this day, and they didn’t stand out to be noticed they stood out because of their faith in God.
Lastly before we split into our groups,
you need to know, that Jesus, sets us free,
Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”
25 And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat, and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
Galatians 5:1 “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
