God is a good and he is worthy to praised!
1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
The theme and Big Picture of these verses is the Believers in Christ have Hope and Assurance of an Eternal home. We will talk about 4 assurances we have when we surrender out life to christ.
1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
Assurance 1
A person conviction that we have eternal hope, hope of eternal house in heaven.
We know- an intimate experience not just head knowledge. Revelation knowledge is need to believe the scripture. all of this sounds foolish to those who have not been enlighten with revelation knowledge.
Our personal conviction should be a firsthand , personal experience
Earthly house is interpreted as earthly tent_ temporary dwelling place. flimsy, weak, decaying....Outward perish but inner man is renewed daily.
16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
Dissolved means taken down, dies, separated we still have eternal hope.
Building of God is permanent, strong, stedfast everlasting. The God kind of life. Made by God himself.
13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
Therefore we have no need to fear because we have God with us and in us.
2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
There is groaning in us and in all the earth to be redeemed and to return to God original plan of His kingdom ruling in heaven and earth. A new heave and new earth is a promise for all believers in Christ, Jesus.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
we groan for house in heaven,
we groan to be clothed with our heavenly garment.
we groan to be released and to have immortality.
Man was never meant to; sin caused death ( separation)
Righteousness of Christ bring eternal life.
Assurance 2: The guarantee of the Importation of the Holy Spirit
5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
The Holy is a deposit of heaven within us.
Wrough- worked us out. Fitted and fashioned undergo an immortal change by entering and dwelling in us.
The believer partakes of the divine nature
the believer is a new creature
The believer becomes a new man
Assurance 3 : The Holy stir up and enhances our hope
6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
The Holy Spirit sir up our Confidence
The Holy Stirs us great courage
Assurance 4: Judgement make us accountable and stirs up hope.
9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Judgement stirs diligence God because we all must appear before the judgement seat of Christ.
We need to aware of the accountability we have to our LORD and Saviour.
What is the Judgement Seat of Christ ?
A time for believers to give an account
10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Different from white Throne Judgement
Does not determine our salvation
Time of examination or a time of award
Not a time to punish sin
In the Greek, a single word is used for “judgment seat” in Romans 14:10 and 2 Corinthians 5:10—the word is bema. A bema was a raised platform on which judges sat to view athletic games. Their job was to make sure contestants followed the rules and to present awards to the victors (see 1 Corinthians 9:24–27). The bema was never a place to reprimand the athletes or to punish them in any way. It was a place of testing and reward. In the same way, the bema of Christ will not be a place of condemnation or censure.
In anticipation of the judgment seat of Christ, we are careful in what we say and do in this life. James gives this advice: “Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom” (James 2:12; cf. Matthew 12:36). We want to give our account with joy on that day, and that is why we strive to serve the Lord faithfully today.
The Bible speaks of believers receiving crowns for different things. The various crowns are described in 2 Timothy 2:5, 2 Timothy 4:8, James 1:12, 1 Peter 5:4, and Revelation 2:10. We believe the judgment seat of Christ is when the crowns will be awarded, and this will take place in heaven soon after the rapture of the church (as described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18).
At the very end of the Bible, Jesus said, “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done” (Revelation 22:12). In preparation for the judgment seat of Christ, what are you choosing to “build” with? Gold, silver, and precious stones—things that will last? Or wood, hay, and straw—things that will not stand the day of testing?
