Illustration-
In our text today we will see many truths about who God is, and who we are called to be. I want to give you an example of a faithful brother who, by the grace of God, took the Gospel to the nations faithfully.
William Carey-
born 1761
at the age of 14 he was a shoe maker
for a short time in his life, he worshipped at a Congregationalist church, but in 1778, at the age of 18, he gave his life to Jesus and was baptised in a baptist church.
in 1787, he began his pastoral ministry. during this time he said one of his more famous saying "expect great things from God, attempt great things for God."
during his pastoral ministry however, he felt the call to the nations.
He left for India in 1793, at the age of 32. He would never return home again. Instead, he died in 1834, giving his life to the people he was called to preach the gospel to. He translated the Bible into dozens of languages, he would bring many to know Jesus, and he would encourage so many others to join him on the Mission field. He would even be later referred to as the Father of Modern Missions.
Why am I telling you this story? William Carey knew who God was. He placed his own identity in God, and because of these two factors, he felt the urgency of the Gospel.
Read text Psalm 67
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us, Selah
2 that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
6 The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, shall bless us.
7 God shall bless us;
let all the ends of the earth fear him!
Here in this Text I want us to see who God has revealed himself to be, and how God has called his church to be faithful to Him
I pray we go from this place today encouraged, worshipping the Lord and taking the Gospel to the nations
Who has God revealed himself to be?
Who has God revealed himself to be?
This passage shows us first and foremost who God is.
4 Characteristics of our God
The one and true God -verse 3
We struggle in todays world do we not? We find ourselves relating all the more to the Israelites waiting for Moses to come down with the ten commandments, and so we build ourselves a God. Perhaps not a Golden Calve, but we have build our selves many Gods here in America. Anything we value more then our god. Anything that demands our attention more. Anything that deems itself more worthy of praise then our God.
Relationships
substance abuse
technology
even religious ideas, which are divorced from God’s intent for them.
We must remember our one and only true God.
He is the Truine God who created the heavens and the sea, and he loves us!
Why in the world would we worship the created, not the creator? As we see in passages like rm 1
The Just and righteous God- verse 4
God does not allow sin to go without punishment. Here in verse 4 he says that he judges the peoples. He is a Holy God, and being a Holy God, he cannot allow for Sin to go un punished.
How did God punish the sin of the believer you might ask. He punished the sin of the believer on the Cross.
But, for those who reject the cross and Jesus, they shall suffer a judgement, and they will be counted as guilty. As we have seen, many as of today do not follow Jesus, and if he came back today would be lost to an eternity in hell.
The Powerful and Sovereign God- verse 4, you guide
use scriptures here
God Guides the nations. While I wont stay here long. What I want us to see here is God’s power. God is not a weak God! He is powerful.
God’s power and sovereignty is displaced in the Bible:
he displays his power when he parts the red sea, allowing for the nation of Israel to walk across on dry land.
He displays his power when he uses King David to defeat Goliath.
He displays his power when he punishes Israel in the exile
But his greatest display of power is in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For it is in this display of power where Jesus defeats sin and death
The Loving and Gracious God - 2 saving power

v 2, his saving power is found in the work of jesus
Why does understanding who God is help us to understand who we are and our role as the people of God?
We must understand who God is in order to worship him as our true God. In order to serve his as our just ruler. In order to obey him as our sovereign King, and in order to be saved by his mercy
Only once we understand God will we now be able to turn to understand who we are, and how God calls us to serve him.
Now we can re examine this text, looking at how God calls his church to be faithful to Him
The Faithful Church
The Faithful Church
We are called to be faithful Church
3 characteristics of a faithful Church
The Faithful Chruch Praises the True God -v3
The ultimate Goal of the church is worship. This means we are first and foremost worshippers of God. sGod’s goal for our life is for us to worship him
Scriptures
Romans 11:36 “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”
John 17:24 “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Isaiah 43:25 ““I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.”
God saves us, he wipes our sins away, he trades places with us on that cross, pays the price of our sin, so that we may bring him Glory and Praise. We as a church are worshippers.
We are to live our lives worshipping the True God.
Think about our text for today
v 3 v4 v 7
but the culmination of our text is found in v 5. He says here twice Let the Peoples Praise you God!
This is the greatest gift we could ever have, to have a relationship with the most majestic true, sovereign, Just Gracious God. And worship him for all of eternity.
Dr. Akin at my school says it like this
Read quote: page 4
William Carey Said it like this:
“When I am gone, say nothing about Dr. Carey. Speak about Dr. Carey’s savior.”
The question I have here for you, is what God do you worship? What God do you serve?
The Faithful Chruch Prioritizes the True God 1-2 and 7
read 1-2 and 7
God Blesses us and gives us mercy so that we may can share our blessing with others. So that we can be merciful with others. In order that, we might cause others to see God. That in our actions, others would Praise God. Not our praise
Here in this Psalm, the psalm is referring to the people of Israel. But today, this applies to all of the people of God
We as a church receive blessing so that we may bless others, and display God.
We are blessed financially to bless others
we are blessed spiritually to bless others
Do we use God’s amazing blessings to advance the Gospel? When we are blessed, do we remember who is blessing us?
IE-give to local church, give to ministry here and missions.
William Carey Said it like this
I care not where or how I lived, or what hardships I went through, so that I could gain souls for Christ.
This here is the attitude of a man that used his blessing to gain souls for the kingdom. Do we live up to this calling?
Out of everything here today, this was very convicting to me. William Carys words are powerful.
Read quote again.
Sometimes we can think we are blessed to make our lives more comfortable. That could not be further from the truth. We are blessed
The Faithful Church Proclaims the True God-1-7
Missions is not the ultimate goal of the Church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate not man. When this age is over and countless millions of redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.
-Piper
Missions exists because worship doesn't. If the whole world worshipped God then there would be no need for missions. But as we have already seen, we live in a lost world.
We go because many do not worship the true God. V 5
Romans 10:14–15 “14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!””
Psalm 67:5 “5 Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!”
Remember the lost. Not all the people praise God yet
William Carey Said: “I question whether all are justified in in staying here, while so many are perishing without means of grace in other lands”
Adrian Rodgers says:
we are all to bring all men by all means to Jesus by any cost
I challenge you friends to go out from this place today, not just worshiping the Lord, and blessing others because you are blessed, but also, taking the Gospel to the Nations.
Perhaps, like William cary, some here will go to the mission field and spend their lives proclaiming the gospel of Jesus. Others will stay here preaching the Gospel in North Carolina. However, I challenge all of us all to consider, the call to go, and to engage in Gospel proclamation wherever you are. We must be intentional in proclaiming with those who do not know Jesus, because no one is promised tomorrow.
When we do stay……
How do you stay?
Be a missionary here.
missionary mindset here
Pray for the lost
daily remembering and being burdened with the lost
Pray for more to go
supporting those who do go
Going short term.
Conclusion:
Church family, I pray that today you have been encouraged. By seeing the Lord for who he is, and by seeing ins Scripture, who God has called us to be. For those however, that have never responded to the call of salvation on their lives. Jesus Loves you, and he is calling you to repent and trust in him as your savior. Please, come if you will, speak to me or Pastor Jackson, or one of the leaders here today. Turn these steps into an alter and trust the one and only True God.
We Go because we are ambassadors
2 Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
What is an ambassador? -
We Go because we are commanded to.
Go therefore and make disciples! Matt 28:19-20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Millions are dying without Jesus, the question we need to ask ourselves is not why why should we go, but why should we stay?
We Go because Jesus Came.
John 20:21 “21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.””
We Go because Jesus came.
