Isaiah 40:27-31 Sums Hope for hopeless situations.
It here that Isaiah makes the case that the Lord is Incomparable Assistance.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel,
My way is hid from the LORD,
And my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard,
That the everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Fainteth not, neither is weary?
tThere is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint;
And to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings as eagles;
They shall run, and not be weary;
And they shall walk, and not faint. (Is 40:27–31).
Have you ever felt like giving up? Have you ever been pushed to the limit? Have you ever felt that God has forgotten you? He is not hearing your prayers?
Isaiah reminds the Children of Israel not to give up on God. I can remind you also. Don’t give up on God, because he won’t give up on you!
Let me give you some back drop. Isaiah the prophet has told the Children of Israel indeed they will be going into captivity because of their disobedience. Chapter 39 Hezekiah had shown the visitors of Babylon all his house. Isaiah declares that all that they have seen will be taken back to Babylon. Tho one may think this one single act sealed the fate of the Children Israel but it was the disobedience and wickedness of the people that continued even after many warnings.
You recall Isaiah 1 opens
For the LORD hath spoken,
I have nourished and brought up children,
And they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knoweth his owner,
And the ass his master’s crib:
But Israel ldoth not know,
My people doth not consider.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity,
A seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters:
They have forsaken the LORD,
They have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger,
They are gone away backward. (Is 1:2–5).
The Lord reminds them And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you:
Yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear:
Your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17 Learn to do well;
uSeek judgment, relieve the oppressed,
Judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:
Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (Is 1:15–18).
The Lord wanted them to do right but it appeared right was not in them.
So it the pronouncement of their carrying away and the announcement of Hope we find ourselves this morning.
The Children of Israel will find themselves in a period of hopelessness. You recall Psalm 137
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song;
And they that wasted us required of us mirth,
Saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4 How shall we sing the LORD’s song
In a strange land? (Ps 137:3–4).
That is hope life can find you. Whether its our own doing or situations that caught us by surprise. We can find ourselves in some tough situations.
Situations where we feel like fainting. Literally giving up! David said I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. What did David remind us. Wait on the Lord Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait I say on the Lord!
There are so many reasons we feel like fainting but there so many more reasons not to. The question here
“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.”
He has the perfection of power and also of wisdom. There is no searching of understanding. Unbelief is based upon absurdity, but faith rests upon reason and fact. How many can testify that God did it for me in the past and i know he will do it again?
Sometimes the situation will seem overwhelming. You will come through! This may not at first sight seem to be true, but it really is so. To believe in the almighty and all-wise God, is the most rational thing in the world; and to disbelieve him, is both the most wicked and the most irrational thing.
When a child of God begins to distrust his Father, it must be because he doubts either God’s memory or his power. It seems utterly absurd to do either!
First, we must recognize There is none like the Lord!
Secondly, He gives power to the faint
Thirdly, Everyone faces exhaustion
