Genesis 39:1–6 (ESV)
Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field. So he left all that he had in Joseph’s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.
God Blesses Joseph
Genesis 39, 40

1. Joseph in Potiphar’s House

Genesis 39:2-6
The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field. So he left all that he had in Joseph’s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.” - Genesis 39:2-6
Although Joseph was in a bad situation, God remained Faithful to him. God blessed the work of Joseph’s hands and Potiphar put him in charge of everything. God showed Joseph his grace!
Grace means unearned Goodwill towards someone!
(((Birthday presents are a good example of grace, because you don’t earn it.)))
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17
There is no variation in the Goodness of God! We must remember that in the Good and bad times!
Canned Food
(((Speaking of Good, you know what is good? Food! I love a good donut, but does that always stay good? No!
I will willingly admit that some things that interest guys is weird. Here is an example:
In HS I went through a phase where I would watch people eat canned food on Youtube. They would eat canned foods from like 50 years ago, it was absolutely disgusting! Canned food is so heavily preserved that they were able to do this without getting sick most of the time! But even though the goodness of canned food is supposed to last forever, it doesn’t! That goes with anything on earth! This goes the same for people! My “goodness” definitely changes when I am hungry!
Only the goodness of God doesn’t change and lasts forever!)))
Joseph continued to work hard and serve the Lord in the hard times, as he knew that Goodness of God would remain on him!
“for those who love God all things work together for good,  for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
So, Joseph had it going pretty good in the house of Potiphar, but one day something happened!
Potiphar’s wife liked Joseph, but he said no to her because he knew that was wrong.
She grew angry and lied to Potiphar saying that Joseph attacked her!
Potiphar grew angry, and he had Joseph thrown into Pharaoh’s Prison

2. Joseph in Prison

Genesis 39:21-23, Genesis 40:
21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. 23 The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the Lord was with him. And whatever he did, the Lord made it succeed.” - Genesis 39:21-23
While Joseph was in Prison:
Pharaoh’s Cupbearer and Baker were put in prion for something they did.
Joseph noticed one morning that they both seemed down and he asked what was wrong
They said that the both had dreams and they didn’t know what they meant.
God gave Joseph the interpretation.
Joseph told the cupbearer that he would live and return to serving the king, but that the baker would be killed.
These things happened!
Why was Joseph doing so well even though everything in his life was terrible?…
Because the Lord was with Him!
The Lord is with us too!
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” - John 14:15–17
The Fiery Furnace
(((Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and the Fiery Furnace! God was with them in the fire just like He was with Joseph during hard times!)))
When you put your trust in Jesus then you will receive the Holy Spirit who will be with you and He will be in you!
Joseph didn’t trust in himself, he trusted in God!
