Deuteronomy 6:17–19 KJV 1900
17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee. 18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, 19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.
Deuteronomy 11:13–17 KJV 1900
13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. 15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full. 16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; 17 And then the Lord’s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you.
Mark 12:30–34 KJV 1900
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
Title: How I Love the Lord
Deuteronomy 6:18 simply tells us to do that which is right and good.
Most of the time we feel more like Paul…
Romans 7:21 KJV 1900
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Deuteronomy 11:13 begins a conversation that would take thousands of years to complete…
God and Moses would begin to talk about this…
1,300 years later Jesus would still be talking about it…
And 3,500 years after Moses and God began the conversation, we are talking about it today!
How Do I Love the Lord?
In all the chaos of living…
Here is how God started with Moses.:
Deuteronomy 11:13 (KJV 1900)
13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
Hearken diligently = listen intently or carefully?
Why do you have to listen so carefully?
BECAUSE YOU MIGHT MISS SOMETHING!!!!
This world is full of distractions… Listen carefully!
Love Him = lots of definitions of this word…
Romantic, platonic, brotherly
Strong emotion, even hate
Appetite
Slave to master, subordinate to authority
Serve = work for another, live for a cause greater than ones self
Heart = inner man, mind, will
Soul = Living being, life, self desire, appetite, emotion, passion
Jesus would bring this up in Mark 12 when asked “What is the greatest commandment?”.
Mark 12:29–34 (KJV 1900)
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
God told Moses…
Jesus told the scribe…
I am telling you… Do right and Love God!
Hunger after God with like a starving man!
Seek to please Him like a slave seeks to please their master!
Work for Him!
Think about Him!
Do what He asks of you!
Live life to His fullest!
Be passionate for Him!
This is almost impossible in today’s world!
We have been programed from birth to seek personal agenda’s.
Please ourselves.
Do what makes Me happy.
Make me happy or I will divorce you…
Give me more money and less responsibility or I will quit...
It’s about my career, my life, what I want, what is best for me…
Romans 1:22–26 (KJV 1900)
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Philippians 3:18–19 (KJV 1900)
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV 1900)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Imagination, thought = thought process
Battle of knowledge
God’s knowledge, man’s knowledge
What God knows vs. What you know
Daniel 12:4 says that in the last days (time of trouble) knowledge shall increase).
We have to bring our knowledge into captivity - make POWs.
Colossians 2:3 KJV 1900
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 3:2 KJV 1900
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
