Class seven- Man, his need redemption (3/5/24)
We discussed last week man’s need for propitiation. Can anyone tell me the definition of propitiation?

Introduction:

Tonight we look at mans need for redemption.
Redemption defined (Oxford dictionary): the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt.
Another definition I found it means “to loosen; to buy back; to release on receipt of ransom.”
Jesus gave himself as our ransom (Mt20:28; Mk10:45)
Matthew 20:28 NASB95
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
and then
Mark 10:45 NASB95
45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
In the N.T. Jesus Christ is put forth as our Redeemer who comes into the slave market of the world to buy us back, to pay the purchase price for all persons with his own blood (consider Rom3:24)

Aim:

To grasp the significance of mans need for redemption. God’s plan for redemption is God’s eternal purpose, God’s scheme of redemption.
To come to know, and hopefully love God’s provision for not just our redemption but for all who would come through Jesus Christ.

Outline

Redemption is man’s need.
Man is under the dominion of sin
Sin can have master over us (ref.Rom6:14)
turn to read Rom7:14 (ref: Jn8:34)
Romans 7:14 NASB95
14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.
Jesus is the way to be set free (Jn8:36)
Man is under the curse of the law
You are a slave to what you are obedient to (Rom6:14-17)
The Jews under the law, the law was a curse (Gal3:10-14)
turn to and read (Gal4:4-5) purchased for adoption!
Galatians 4:4–5 NASB95
4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Man is under the judgment of God’s wrath
God is not partial (Rom2:1-11)
Justified by His blood, saved from the wrath (Rom5:9)
Romans 5:9 NASB95
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
Believe in Him or suffer the wrath (Jn3:36; 1The1:10)
Speaking of wrath note down (2The1:5-12)
Redemption is God’s provision for Man’s need
Jesus is God’s provided Redeemer
Redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus (turn to and read 1Pt1:18-20)
1 Peter 1:18–20 NASB95
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
Jesus, man’s Redeemer, paid the price to deliver man
Redeemed not by the perishable things (1Pt1:18-20)
The purchase price was paid (turn to and read 1Cor6:19-20)
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NASB95
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
Jesus, in paying the price ransoms man from sin, the Law, wrath and death
Rescued you from this present evil age (turn to and read Gal1:4)
Galatians 1:4 NASB95
4 who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
Took out out of our condemned state (Rom7:24-8:3)
Death has no sting; so you can standfast now! (1Cor15:55-58)
Jesus, in paying the price, ransoming sinful man, no longer to be enslaved to sin, but has saved him to do his Masters will.
Some instructions for the redeemed life (Rom6:1-23)
Such finality is the ransoming work it is said to be God’s eternal redemption
We have obtained eternal redemption (turn to and read Heb9:11-12)
Hebrews 9:11–12 NASB95
11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Conclusion
The Christ is our Redeemer and our redemption (turn to and read 1Cor1:30)
1 Corinthians 1:30 NASB95
30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,
Cost of our redemption is priceless to us
He went to the cross for us (turn to and read 2Cor5:20-21; Just reference this one 1Pt2:20-24)
2 Corinthians 5:20–21 NASB95
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Instead of our bondage His blood
The confidence of our redemption is in God’s own seal on us (turn to and read: Eph1:13-14)
Ephesians 1:13–14 NASB95
13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.
The consequences of our redemption is we are made Sons of God (turn to and read Gal4:5; ref only: Rom8:12-17)
Galatians 4:5 NASB95
5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Finally, the completeness of our redemption in that He gave His life for us (Time permitting turn to and read each of these Mk10:45, Tit2:14; Rom8:23)
Mark 10:45 NASB95
45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
then
Titus 2:14 NASB95
14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Finally
Romans 8:23 NASB95
23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.
What man needed, redemption, God provided a Redeemer who is our redemption!
