Sometimes we have a hard time reconciling our circumstances with the promises of God
Main idea: Follow the Father and be a father worth following
-be a person worth following
when you follow the Father, you become someone worth following

Trust and obey

Abraham and Isaac
Hebrews 11:17–19 NASB95
By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; it was he to whom it was said, “In Isaac your descendants shall be called.” He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back as a type.
Things need to be tested to show their true value: my schooling, parachute, Blob,

If you didn’t know what a gun was, would you believe it was dangerous?
often in our lives, the true value of things comes through the testing
there are seasons and times in our lives where we are going through a testing
Trust and Obey
The test of trust
Genesis 22:1–3 NASB95
Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

Hebrews 11:17 NASB95

When God doesn’t make sense
Contradiction
Our circumstances vs God’s promises
We can’t figure out God
The wisdom of God is foolishness compared to the wisdom of Man
You won’t be the first person to question God’s plans, but the question is will you trust Him?
Reason
Father knows best and has a plan
mother knows best, take it from your mumsy
resurrecting God
Isaiah 55:8–9 NASB95
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaac and Jacob
Hebrews 11:20–21 NASB95
By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come. By faith Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.

Redeeming God
Genesis 41:51–52 NASB95
Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” He named the second Ephraim, “For,” he said, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
Joseph’s story
Genesis 48:1–6 NASB95
Now it came about after these things that Joseph was told, “Behold, your father is sick.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him. When it was told to Jacob, “Behold, your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel collected his strength and sat up in the bed. Then Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, and He said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and numerous, and I will make you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your descendants after you for an everlasting possession.’ “Now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine, as Reuben and Simeon are. “But your offspring that have been born after them shall be yours; they shall be called by the names of their brothers in their inheritance.

Genesis 48:14–16 NASB95
But Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, crossing his hands, although Manasseh was the firstborn. He blessed Joseph, and said, “The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, The angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; And may my name live on in them, And the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And may they grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”

Joseph
He could have abandoned all faith and become all Egyptian (divination cup)
Hebrews 11:22 NASB95
By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave orders concerning his bones.
Genesis 50:24–25 NASB95
Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.” Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones up from here.”
Joseph is dying. Basically ruled much of the known world. He makes his brother’s swear: He reminds them:

Conclusion:
There’s a difference between A good story and A God Story
Will you allow yourself to become a part of God’s story
Would your life be entertaining enough for reality tv?
Hebrews 12:1–2 NASB95
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
