EX: Bitter Batman

He is a hero, millionaire, philanthropist he saves the world

But he is deeply hurt and use his pain as fuel to help him fight crime

Its shapes his perception

if we look closer at batmans personal life we can see that batman is bitter

he has years of trama, pain , sadness he hasnt dealt with

and those closest to him at some point in time find themselves leaving batman

Transistion: As future leaders of tomorrow , who are going to go far and incredible things i wish someone would have told me to guard my heart .

Because just like batman bitterness is a tool we can use

The time i got invited into leadership

I got invited to be apart of my leadership program at my church

i was freshly married

excited to be staying in a hotel they provided to do this training.

at the end of the first session they wanted us to go back to our room and write our story but also write what the lord had been saying to us.

I wrote the Lord is calling me back to minisrty to the call he gave me when i was 11 that i was gonna pastor.

My Leadership told me your not qualified to be a Pastor

i used that comment she made and fueled my entire minisrty with it

i didnt know how to have the the conversations

i sacrafised my marriage on the alter of minisrty

I knew God was calling me to leave that place and stayed to long

ulitmatley i left the church

God told me that i was bitter and that if i didnt give this to him that i would eventually start to bleed on the people that i lead.

Did he have my heart i thought so, he exsposed me at camp

maybe there a rooms in your heart that you havent allowed jesus to even step in.

he wants all of you. all the parts you try to hide

even the dark room at the back of the house

he wants to go in there becuase where jesus goes freedom follows,

Main Idea: Unaddressed hurt today breeds bitterness tomorrow

What s bibical example odf someone doing the right thing?

David and Saul

Because of Sauls disobedience to God

God strips the annointing of King from Saul and gives it to a rudy boy named David

and because the favor of God that is one his life David has Victory after victory

and the lords faver was upon him

but suddenly saul notics that the people start singing this song

1 Samuel 18:6-8

6 When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. 7 As they danced, they sang:“Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”8 Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?”

Saul then seeks to elimanate david because davids estistence at that time is a threat to his kingdom

in reality david was winning victories and deafating giants that Saul was meant to defeat.

Forces him to leave the country and be the run for 7-10 years

David starts having oppornuitys to take Sauls life

But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless? 10 As surely as the Lord lives,” he said, “the Lord himself will strike him, or his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish. 11 But the Lord forbid that I should lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed. Now get the spear and water jug that are near his head, and let’s go.”

1 samuel 26:23

23 The Lord rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed. 24 As surely as I valued your life today, so may the Lord value my life and deliver me from all trouble.”

25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, David my son; you will do great things and surely triumph.”

On record this is david and sauls last conversation

sometime after this Saul is killed

david is crowned king

david lamentes publicly and crys for the former king and he shows kindness to the kings family.

What are some things we can learn from david

Dont Ignore the wound

we spend too much time acting like something isnt wrong , that we have it all together.

there is nothing wrong with making it known that youve been hurt .

if you dont adknolwdege it than you cant deal with it.

He adknowledge the wrong doing but still trust God to delever him

He worships the lord ( Psalms)

Let It Go

I know they messed up

unforgiveness is not worth your sins not being forgiven

Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

How do you know when youve let it go. When people can bring up that persons name

God gives the best spankings

sometimes your success is the best spanking but let God do his thing

Romans 12:19 adds these words for our benefit; “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’”

The hurt is real, the disapointment is real, not feeling life

My Generation has not gone back to the people who called us entitled. I’m doing all this work for God and I’m noticing that I’m carrying around this bitterness in my heart. We haven’t done the best job at honoring despite the faults David didn’t waste energy on bitterness.

i dont know how is this message hit you, but i hope its given you a little bit of fuel to go back and ask
