Introduction: Open your bibles to 2 Corinthians 1
who am I:
So thankful for this church and its mission to plant churches.
We are seeing the Lord work in Perry Meridian 6th Grade academy
Right now as I speak church is happening there.
2 Corinthians:
1) 4th letter. (Internal Strife, 2 encouragement, 3rd letter, and this one)
2) Paul is writing to share with them that suffering validates his ministry.
3) This morning we are looking at the intro.
4) There is so much for us to take hold of this morning from this text.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.

V 3 Blessed be the God= God I am so thankful.
Who?
Who?
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
The Father of Mercies:
1) Father = relationship to Jesus
2) Gods greatest display of mercy is through Jesus.
3) and his greatest display of mercy is to you.
God of all comfort:
1) God is the source of all comfort.
2) You are not the source of your comfort.
The Who is established….
Does what?
Does what?
who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
In all our affliction:
1) Pauls affliction 11:24-28
2) The church in Corinth
3) Our affliction
A. Pain or suffering
Financial, Physical, relational, mental, spiritual
B. Pain is God's megaphone to rouse a deaf world. -C.S. Lewis
So that I can do what?
So that I can do what?
If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.
Comfort those who are in any affliction:
1) So that… Gods purpose in providing you comfort wasn’t solely for you.
2) Your darkest days, allow you to meet people in their darkest hour.
3) Jaycee example. Couples who have been on the brink of divorce, drug addiction, none of it…
How Can I do that?
How Can I do that?
2 corinthians 1:
1) you cant, its only by the power of Jesus.
5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
In Baptism we receive new life, we receive power and perspective.
Not to avoid suffering but to overcome it, and witness to the God of power.
Do you know the God of comfort, do you know the father of mercy? In Christ you are offered hope.
There is a greater purpose to your suffering (6-7):
If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
Gods glory
