The Model Prayer

Last week Recap
Prayer is communion and fellowhip
We share on how not to pray. Matt5:5
We share on the access we have to the throne of God.
We also discussed our prayer position is from the place of oneness.
Matthew 6:9 “Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
The rabbis of Jesus’ day thought of Hebrew as a sacred language, and so their prayers were usually made in Hebrew, not Aramaic. Jesus seems to have departed from the norm by teaching a model prayer in Aramaic, in order to suggest universal access to God.
The name Abba was not known in Hebrew culture as that was a very personal term.
Jesus language was Aramaic and he used the word Abba also the show the universal expression of that name.
We can see bothe the personal relationship and universa; expression that all people can partake of this relationship.
The name Abba was the first word taught to a child.
We need to understand that Jesus is referring to a Father and Son relationship.
Galatians 4:16 “Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth?”
Father at that time was not only your biological father it could also refer to your
we have the right to address our prayers to our Father in heaven and not merely to an impersonal King, Judge, or Master.
We do not approach Him as a commoner trying to find a way to obtain an audience with the king. Instead, we are able to come before the throne of grace boldly
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
As for the actual usage of the term abba, it was used to address one’s father but was also a respectful term for a superior, elder, or teacher. The meaning of the term was broader than just a literal father-son relationship. Many students referred to their instructors as “father,” even though they had no direct familial relationship with them. Hence, Elisha called Elijah “my father.
So when Jesus began His model prayer with Abba in heaven, He was first establishing our relationship with Him.
Secondly, there are two kinds of relationship, and these are established by the Old and New Covenants.
The Old Covenant relationship governs our growth as children who do not differ from servants (Gal. 4:1) and slave-wives such as Hagar (Gal. 4:24). The New Covenant relationship gives us a mature relationship with God, pictured as a full-grown son and also as a wife who is a free woman.
Matthew 6:9 ESV
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Hallowed be thy name Hallowed by Thy name.” What does this mean? Why should we pray (petition) this? Is He not already hallowed?
Hallowed” is from the Greek word hagiazo, which means “to render or acknowledge, to be venerable or hallow; to purify.”
Our Heavenly Father is already hallowed in His position as Creator and Father, but many do not recognize Him as their King, and even more people have no revelation of His laws that reveal His will for their lives.
The Lord's Prayer starts with the idea that the person praying wants his or her Abba to be made holy in the world, and that they want this change to start with them.
In essence, it is a request to show others what kind of person Abba is so that others will want to be like them and want to have the same bond with Abba.
Essentially, it's a request to testify to Abba's character in the hopes that others will want to be more like Abba and seek out a relationship with Him.
Parents often tell their kids, "You are giving me a bad name" when they sin.
Ezekiel 36:21–23 “But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came. “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.”

Matt 6:10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
Colossians 1:13 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,”
The embracing of the gospel of the kingdom starts with the transformation of the mind.
When we say the Lord’s prayer, we ask for God’s will to be done here on Earth (Matt. 6:10).
This means that, right now, God’s will is not being done on Earth. It is something we want to happen, but right now it is not happening. In other words, God is not controlling everything.
It is accurate to say that God is in control, if we mean nothing is outside the limits of God’s authority, but to say that God is in control every time something bad happens is to blame God for those bad happenings.
The good news that Jesus and the apostles preached is that the kingdom of God is now available and within reach. In other words, Jesus is King. You and I can now live under His reign. We can be part of His kingdom, and we can experience His kingdom today. This is the gospel of the kingdom.

The Kingdom of God is Jesus being King and He rule through His Kingdom.
Matthew 12:28 “But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.”
Jesus and the apostles announced, “The kingdom of God is at hand.” By this phrase, “at hand,” they meant that it was available or within reach.
Luke 17:20 “Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed,”
The kingdom of God is something you and I can see and experience right now. The kingdom of God is everything over which Jesus presently rules.

Unless you are born again, you cannot see this.
On the other hand, if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and you confess Him as Lord, then you can understand that Jesus is King. Right now, He is ruling over a kingdom.
John 3:5 “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
English Standard Version (Chapter 4)
2 Cor 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God
