God’s Hand

Daniel 5: 4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. 5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

To begin with there are a plethora of problems with this sacred text. And for a little while I’d like to teach, talk, and tell us about that Hand of God. God’s Hand is Powerful. In fact God’s Hand is All Powerful. And the biblical language used here is Anthropomorphic. The word Anthropomorphic simply means to describe God in Human Terms. Everybody knows that God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. And so knowing that we’ve got to understand that uses natural language that we can understand so that when He presents Himself in a Supernatural way we can see that it’s God. In this case it’s God’s Hand.

The story goes that Belshazzar invited a thousand of his lords and princes and government officials and wives and concubines to attend a great feast. Every legitimate Government known to mankind hosts banquets and parties. Louisiana is about to host the biggest party of the year Mardi Gras. Today Las Vegas is hosting the Superbowl. And so we are quite familiar with feasting and banqueting. And the bible says that they had the Music going they had all kind of food and houdoers caviar and champagne. They had red wine white wine rose’ and blanco.

And while the banquet was in full swing, the king got full of that wine. And the spirit of that wine started talking to him. He’s already the king. That Babylonian/Chaldean/Medes/ and Persian region was known to have very rich kings. And king Belshazzar’s grandfather Nebuchadnezzar was a rich and prosperous king as well. And the point is they had every gold and silver chalice that they could ever need. So make no mistake about it there was not a shortage of drinking vessels. But this young king had gotten full of that wine. And that wine started talking to him. And he thought within his heart of heart to defy the Hebrew God of the Israelites. My grandmother said use to say hush up right now before your mouth ride you a check that your behind can’t cash. Hush up!!

But no this young king has no boundaries. Church in life we all have boundaries. I attribute this to his spoiled rich brat ways. His arrogant and cocky ways His irreverent lack of respect for the Lord God Jehovah. So Belshazzar decides to call for the Holy vessel that they confiscated when they conquered Israel and then took some of the children of Israel in exile.

The king had no respect for the Holy relics of the Hebrew culture. They poured wine in the Holy vessels of God that were made out of Gold and Silver. That’s bad enough 3x but they raised their glasses and toasted to the gods of gold of silver of iron of stone and of wood.

That was like saying we are going to talk the communion trays and let the local wine-oo fill up the little communion cups with wild Irish Rose or White Port and drink out of them. Oh they wined and dined and defiled the holy vessels of God in their banqueting hall. Let me remind you that king Belshazzar knew better than to play with God Almighty. Because he remembers when his grandfather got full of himself and said Look at what I have built, what I have created Look at what my hands made Babylon is great because of what I have done. And God got mad with king Nebuchadnezzar and changed his nature. Nebuchadnezzar went crazy grew long hair like a wolf grew claws like a wild beast, teeth got sharp like a razor Nebuchadnezzar riped his clothes off and started living outside in the elements and the bible says he ate grass like a wild animal. His mind was gone!!! He went stone crazy for 7 years. And then God gave him his right mind again. That’s why we ought to say thank you Lord you enclosed me in my right mind. Yeah 3x. You could have woke up crazy and never come back to your right mind. Some people flip out and don’t ever come back. And so when Belshazzar’s grandfather Nebuchadnezzar came back to his senses he acknowledged the Lord God Jehovah as the True and Living God. As the All Powerful God. As the Supreme God AS El Shaddai the Self Existing One. Yeah yeah yeah But his grandson forgot or fail to reverence God Almighty. The bible says He drank and partied and disregarded whose vessels he was drinking out of.

And verse 5 says All of a sudden Let’s read it together in verse 5. In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

We’re talking about God’s Hand today. God Hand wrote on the wall. Not a whole body but a whole hand. We’ve been studying the Anthropomorphic Language in bible study for over three weeks now and every time God uses human attributes to describe Himself you can bet that something spectacular and Supernatural is about to happen.

The Fingers of the Hand appeared out of nowhere and began to write something profoundly prophetic. The Language God use was written in the Ancient Language and none of the people of that culture could understand the writing.

The bible says that the king’s countenance fell. The king’s knees began to shake The king got weak at the knees and couldn’t stand up straight. And after all that wining and dining the king sobered up quick.

Then he began to call for all of his magicians soothsayers wizard and warlocks witches and hoo doo and vooo-doo specialist. He called for his astrologers and astronomers But He didn’t call for the Lord God Jehovah . And get this nobody could tell king Belshazzar what the Handwriting on the wall was. The bible say that king began to say whoever can interpret the saying will be clothed in fine purple given a gold chain, be appointed third ruler of the kingdom and given kingly riches. But nobody couldn’t tell him. Then His mother came into the banquet hall and said I remember a wise man named Daniel. Daniel was given the foreign name Belteshazzar.

The bible said king Belshazzar heard his mother say how his father Nebuchadnezzar trusted Daniel, which means that king Belshazzar knew about the God of the Hebrews but didn’t respect our God. And church some people just won’t respect you even though they know they should.

And so they go and get Daniel. Daniel stands before the king. The king ask if he’s the same Daniel that was renowned and famous for being able to interpret dreams and wise saying and then the king offers Daniel the same deal for riches and fame and power. But watch this Daniel is not interested in the king’s riches.17 Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts for yourself, or you may give those rewards to someone else. But I will read the writing on the wall for you and will explain to you what it means.

The bible says that Daniel began a discourse of Language that wasn’t favorable to the king. From the NCV the bible says in verse18 “O king, the Most High God made your father Nebuchadnezzar a great, important, and powerful king. 19 Because God made him important, all the people, nations, and those who spoke every language were very frightened of Nebuchadnezzar. If he wanted someone to die, he killed that person. If he wanted someone to live, he let that person live. Those he wanted to promote, he promoted. Those he wanted to be less important, he made less important. 20 “But Nebuchadnezzar became too proud and stubborn, so he was taken off his royal throne. His glory was taken away. 21 He was forced away from people, and his mind became like the mind of an animal. He lived with the wild donkeys and was fed grass like an ox and became wet with dew. These things happened to him until he learned his lesson: The Most High God rules over every kingdom on earth, and he sets anyone he chooses over those kingdoms.

Wait a second you got an exile non citizen refergee talking to the king like that! then Daniel goes even deeper into exposing Belshazzar’s sin. He says king Belshazzar you knew better, you knew the history and the awful plight your grandfather got dealt to him for ignoring the Omnipotence of God. And all of us need to be mindful of the Omnipotence of God. The Omnipotence of God means that God is All Powerful and He ain’t to be played with. Let’s let the word of God prove it. look at verses 22-24 Daniel said 22 “Belshazzar, you already knew these things, because you are a descendant of Nebuchadnezzar. Still you have not been sorry for what you have done. 23 Instead, you have set yourself against the Lord of heaven. You ordered the drinking cups from the Temple of the Lord to be brought to you. Then you and your royal guests, your wives, and your slave women drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone that are not really gods; they cannot see or hear or understand anything. You did not honor God, who has power over your life and everything you do. 24 So God sent the hand that wrote on the wall. God’s Hand, God’s Hand God’s Hand!!! God’s Hand is coming for correction to the corruption. God’s Hand is coming for to give an assessment to the arrogance of king Belshazzar. And God’s Hand is coming for vindication and vengeance on Belshazzar’s vicious viper venom when he decided to use the Holy Vessel of God to drink liquor out of and wine and dine his guests.

God’s Hand is not something I’d want to see knowing the wrong things that I’ve done. Because Daniel told the king, and King you were sorry for your wrong doing, you’re just scared not that you got caught. Most people aren’t sorry that they didn wrong until they get caught. It’s human nature. It’s not right! 3x but it is human nature.

Daniel said in verse 25 that God’s Hand wrote MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. And it means 26 “This is what the words mean: Mene: God has counted the days until your kingdom will end. 27 Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found not good enough. 28 Parsin: Your kingdom is being divided and will be given to the Medes and the Persians.” In other words God’s Hand said to king Belshazzar you fired. I had enough of you. You didn’t learn from the daddy’s mistakes and you actually did worst. You’re out of here.!!! The king is happy that Daniel has told him what he’s up against and verse 29 says Then Belshazzar gave an order for Daniel to be dressed in purple clothes and to have a gold chain put around his neck. And it was announced that Daniel was the third highest ruler in the kingdom. 30 That very same night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonian people, was killed. I infer something in the text that I never saw before … What is it Rev? Darius the ruler over the Medes and the Persians musta had spies and secret service men in the camp all around Belshazzar and his lords and princes and stuff. Because when you getting drunk you stop paying attention to whose around you. Belshazzar had already let his guard down and God’s Hand had already proclaimed judgement and so in closing the bible says in verse 31 So Darius the Mede became the new king when he was sixty-two years old.

In my older years I’m mindful to be reverent toward the things of God. I don’t take God for granted and I certain;y don’t play with God like He’s a man just like me. He’s not the man upstairs like on a Hollywood movie. no no no He’s Almighty God and He moves in mysterious ways. God’s Hand. Amen Were you blessed by the message? Give God a hand of Praise.
