Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Zeal
an eagerness, a passion, great energy and enthusiasm
in verse 8 it reads as - do it diligently
it has great significance for each one of us
Paul encourages love - this is a given
brotherly love and devotion is paramount
then zeal is mentioned
A Reality Check
have we lost our zeal for the Lord?
have we lost our first love?
not here to bring condemnation or regret
let us take the opportunity to deepen maybe restore our zeal
Never be lacking
you see we are not really lacking
there is a more nuanced meaning
it was more of not being lazy, of not being content or having made it
it was indeed this
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
this is a mindset leading into action
rather than just not doing but being purposeful
never signifies an ongoing and constant act
Spiritual Fervour
this is so much having the passion of God within you
the Spirit is inside you
the very powerhouse of God inside you
your spirit must be on fire
allow the God stuff to flourish
Serving the Lord
our destiny and purpose is completely immersed in Jesus
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
the nature of the Lord is clearly known
his strength and endurance is never failing
let us embrace this truth in what we do as believers
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
the corruption of man and the world by sin is significant
yet Jesus has set us free from ll this
his strength becomes our strength
his power becomes our power
we start with faith and finish with our obedience
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
reality is we do grow tired and weary
we are not perfect
God’s word brings a different perspective
when we work in our flesh, our own strength
this is our reward: tiredness and weariness
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
let us hope in the Lord
let us stay in the things of God
let us do it God’s way
walk as Jesus walked
our strength will be renewed
our zeal will be maintained, and promoted
lacking = reluctant
zeal = eagerness
fervour = to be inflamed, enthusiastic
