luke ch 19 v 28-44
Pray
Have you ever seen a red carpet event
pictures. glamour
royal wedding
expensive,
What do these people stand for
they rule over kingdoms
pop stars over the music kingdom
movie stars over hollywood
the royal family over the empire in england
president xi over china
putin over russia
biden over America
and so on..
when biden was inagurated
he flew a Boeing Business Jet 737 to dc for His inauguration
declare him president
it flew a few people and was equipped with a master bedroom and its own shower.
The cost of his inauguration was $73 million
he was wearing expensive suits and they were eating the finest foods
He was royalty ,
A king who came in the splendor of robust indulgence.
He is out of touch with reality
out of touch with the people
Today we will read about a different kind of King.
The type of King that enters with humility and love
The king we serve
has power over all the kingdoms of the world
and He reigns with perfect mercy and perfect justice
He will find His way to His royal throne
but first He must accomplish the mission
This is the type of king that will die for His people
this king is the only king worth following
with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind.
You may struggle to understand this
but Jesus is your king.
He is not just a friend
but you are best friends with the king of all creation.
Recap-
Jesus is on 9 month journey to Jerusalem for passover.
zacheus repents
last week -ten minas ---investing in what God has given you
now we pick up in …luke
Luke 19:28–31 NKJV
When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you loosing it?’ thus you shall say to him, ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’ ”
Bethany was a little district about 2 miles from Jerusalem
Bethpage was between jerusalem and Bethany
Jerusalem- capital of Israel - Temple was there
So----around a mile away from Jerusalem
Jesus calls 2 disciples to go get a colt — young male horse
kind of sketchy right?
Lord are you telling me to go steal?
like matt, go in town, take the keys to that guys kia, and bring it to me..
Jesus is king over that colt.
The animal is Gods,,, and is being given to that man
yet, Jesus knew the man would be willing
to part with the spotless colt for his king Jesus.
so we read on
Luke 19:32–34 NKJV
So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them. But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?” And they said, “The Lord has need of him.”
Just as Jesus commanded them.
A. If Jesus came to take your colt for His kingdom,
would this be your reaction?

Give yourself over to the service of your King

This is a costly sacrifice
perfect young colt is expensive
This man seems to have given it to the Lord with gladness.
only because The Disciples said the Lord needs it.
If the Lord asks you for something
this is how our reaction ought to be.
Q. What are some things that the Lord has need of today?
I can tell you your king needs your heart.
He needs you to give your life over to Him
in the same way this man gave over the colt.
When He has your heart
you realize that everything you have
and everything you are belongs to Him.
Psalm 24:1 NKJV
The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.
You realize the beautiful truth that God is the king of your heart
this translates into the beautiful truth that everything you have
wether material or inmaterial---- belongs to God
So when He says I need it -----thats all you need to hear and its His.
Example — youth fundraiser.
told the church we need this for the kingdom work.
the people said yes to the Lord not to us.
They did that as service to their king.
continuing on in
Luke 19:35–36 NKJV
Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him. And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road.
In matthews Gospel they also put palm branches down
palm sunday- 1 week before crucifixion
The clothes on the colt showed royalty
their version of the red carpet
they were aknowledging his kingship.
Luke 19:37–38 NKJV
Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying: “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
This is titled as the triumphal entry
What Jesus was doing was staking his claim as messiah.
fulling nprophecy
Jesus fullfilled over 300 prophecies made of him
some dating back 4000 years before His time on earth
in this passage He fulfills Zech 9:9
Zechariah 9:9 NKJV
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.
The people are rejoicing because their king is riding into Jerusalem
This king fulfills this as a man of humility
on a colt instead of a chariout.
sitting on the cloaks of men instead of a fancy saddle.

Worship your king for he is humble

Worship is more than Just singing
It is essentially blessing the Lord
We can do this in song, obedience, prayer, reading, service
When we are confronted with the person of Jesus Christ we have 2 options
right him of as crazy
or bow our knee in worship as our king
Theres a big difference
If you are walking by as Jesus rides in on a donkey
what are you doing?
would you be blessing His name
or walking past Him.
We see a big diffference in this type of king
He is a man amongst the people.
Could you imagine taylor swift or trump or biden riding a bike through the town.
Jesus was different
He was humble
and a king who comes down to your level
He meets you were your at
and He is not afraid to go to the bad neighborhoods. ( bad parts of your life)
He doesnt show partiality
He welcomes all into His kingdom
He truly is a good king
I always thought, Why would God want me.
I remember sitting in my car completely hopeless.
thinking about how the world would be better without me in it
somebody told me about this king.
who would welcome me in and help me change.
But I thought thats not how it works
no king would do that.....
What kind of king would want me ....
Well Jesus is a king of a different kind of kingdom
He wants the strugglers, and the rejects, and those who do well.
He is a king who is clothed in humility
therefore we can approach Him no matter where we are.
As Jesus enters the city
the people shout with Joy for their king
hossanna --- blessed is the king !
Psalm 118:26 NKJV
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.
With each new group they ran into
they would line up and heap praises to their king
but in every group your going to have the haters
Luke 19:39–40 NKJV
And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”
religious leaders calling for a stop to this because
they were worshiping Jesus a s God
Jesus says if they do not worship, my creation would worship me.
Make no bones about it
Jesus is claiming His kingship
He is soveriegn ruler over all of creation
and He humbly rides in on a donkey
Now remember some of the same people that were
singing praises will be screaming crucify Him.
Because His kingship was not like the kings of this world.
He was not setting up to overthrow rome and conquer the worlds enemies
He was coming to conquer sin and the devil.
He was setting up a spiritual kingdom to be inherited.
This was going to lead to the rejection of their king.
Luke 19:41–44 NKJV
Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Trust in your king because He is good

What kind of King loves those who hate Him.
We will see later on when Jesus is crucified that He says father forgive them for they do not know what they do.
You get to peek into Jesus heart here.
He knows He will be rejected.
He knows those who will scream blessing now will scream curse later.
He weeps over the rejection that Israel will display.
If you would have known that I came to bring peace into your heart.
forgivness of sin
reconciliation to God ..
but instead they rejected
and He prophecies that because of their rejection
the temple and the city will be destroyed.
this happens in 70 AD
I want you to look at Gods heart
Matthew 23:37 NKJV
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
Jesus proves the typeof king He is
He is good, not willing that any should perish
He is a saving king
He wants to bring all people into His kingdom
This kingdom is a reality.
The king of this kingdom is Jesus
He is good and true
Q. Have you submitted to Him as your king
This means that He is the governing authority in your life.
He governs you by His word.
Have you bowed the knee to Him
and said Lord I will serve you.
This can only happen through the Gospel.
you can serve him by faith… give hope
From this passage I want you to see that He is good.
I want you to see that He is humble
and I want you to see that He is worthy of serving.
when a servant would fulfill his contract
He would have the option to stay.
If His master is good to him He could offer to permenantly become his servant
what would happen is he would put his ear to the door post
take a nail and puncture it
Showed I am dedicated to your house forever
This is what we ought to do
and willingly offer our life to the service of God
through Jesus Christ
for He is a king worthy of worship
